PREFACE
In your journey to become successful in the entertainment industry, whether your dream is to become an actor, a model, or a musician most of you will have to face different types of challenges, such as setbacks, slow growth, rejection, and so on. You can choose to let those challenges hold you back from fulfilling your dream or you could press on toward your dream until it becomes a reality.
One of the tools that I have used to push forward is keeping my hopes up for fulfilling my dream, which is to make it in the entertainment industry as an actor.
You will experience challenges and setbacks that you may not be prepared for because you are new to the industry. A good percentage of you will not be prepared for any setbacks once you leave your family and your comfort zone to start a career in an unfamiliar industry. I do not know what your challenges and setbacks will be, but my hope is that this book will prepare you to deal with and overcome those challenges and setbacks.
Now that you have chosen to read this book, you have embarked on a journey that will teach you to face your challenges.
You will learn to create a plan B or even a plan C while you are waiting for your dream, plan A, to come true. Some of you may be thinking that creating a plan B and a plan C that means that I am giving up plan A. It doesn’t mean that you are giving up plan A; it means that you are getting smarter. You must continue to work on plan A while keeping busy with the other plans.
This book will remind you that dreams do come true. You must know that the challenges you are facing may make you shaky, but you have the power to bring that shakiness to stillness and peace. You will be able to use that time of shakiness to create and execute plans B or C while you are waiting for your dream plan A to become a reality.
This book will teach you how to stay positive and to keep your mind renewed even in the midst of negativity. It will tell you the steps that I took to overcome my fear of failing in the industry.
I can tell you right now, I do know that I will make it in the industry. I just do not know when I will make it. One thing I do is be optimistic despite what I see, and I believe that what I see is just temporary.
I dedicated this book to all my future children and grandchildren and to all new actors and entertainers, including my three brothers, who are trying to make it in the Acting industry
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I wish to extend a special thanks to my mother and my stepfather for always being there for me and supporting me with words of encouragement. I do not like to refer to my stepfather as a stepfather. He is dad
to me, but for this book, so that readers will know whom I am referring to, I must state the difference for the purpose of accuracy.
My mother remarried in 2007. I love my mother’s husband like I love my own mother. He has been there for me through thick and thin, and I can say that meeting and marrying him was one of the best things that has ever happened to my mother, my brothers, and me.
My stepfather is the true definition of a loving, caring man. He has made so many sacrifices for us. I can say that he truly loves my mother, and I couldn’t have asked God for a better man for my mother. I want to thank him for being a true dad.
I thank my mother for formatting and editing this entire book, before I turned it in to an editor. Special thanks to her for supporting my plan to write a book about my experiences during my journey to become an actor and a model.
I am happy to have my mother as my friend and my spiritual guide. Throughout my life, and during my journey, her spiritual guidance has been rewarding. She encourages me to be careful with my thoughts and to have complete faith in God and then to believe that I have the strength to accomplish anything.
She has always advised me to think about the positive side of every negative event in my life and to use the negativity as a learning process, as she has explained in one of her books, Women, Freedom Is Yours.
Because of what my mother has taught me, I have learned to change every negative event in my life into a positive event. It took me time to do that, but with professional coaching and coaching from my mother, now I can say that I see the positive side of all that happens to me.
If you do not have a role model or a spiritual guide, use whatever faith you have and this book to teach you to overcome those negativities. Use your own positive voice.
I want to thank my grandmother, Veronique Exil, and to my grandfather, Pierre Andre Exil, who have sacrificed so much for me that I don’t even know where to begin thanking them. Sadly, my grandfather is no longer with us. I never thought that my grandfather would not be here to witness my success and see the reward of his love and sacrifices in my life.
The one thing I ask God for, is to allow my grandmother to live to see me become successful and to reap the reward of her sacrifices for me together with my grandfather, papa.
That is what we all call him. My grandmother credit co-signing my mother is what has helped me go to acting school. If it hadn’t been for her, I probably wouldn’t have been able to chase my dreams the way I wanted.
I will continue to push harder and never lose faith.
