Conclusion
INTRODUCTION
Growing up in Detroit Michigan, we had our fair share of challenges. Add to those challenges poverty, violence, and being raised in a single parent household. My father lived in the same city, but was absent physically and financially. My mother, on welfare at the time, did a tremendous job raising my sister and me.
I always dreamed of having a close relationship with my father, but that would never happen. And as I grew older, I noticed that some of my peers were receiving wisdom from their fathers that I was missing out on.
God began to put replacement men in my life that helped fill the void my father had left. As I began to seek God, He began to provide me with the wisdom I sought.
This book is written to young men who are willing to learn from the blessings and mistakes of others. I have written in parables or short stories to relate God’s Word with real life situations. Stories that can be read alone, father and son teams or single mother son teams can read them together. This can also be read in a group setting.
Prayerfully, this book will help you miss some of the pot holes and land mines set across your path. My hope is that this book will foster healthy communication between you and your parents or mentors, which will create close, long lasting bonds. This, in turn, will give you the love you are desperately seeking in less positive avenues, and set you on the path of greatness!
APPETITE: TAME THE BEAST WITHIN
Tame the beast called appetite
Once he’s captured your mind, brace for a fight.
Gain control before it gets out of hand.
Whole foods are what your body demands.
Larry would often eat processed foods and plenty of sweets. He craved those foods. Although he had been warned to slow down, he continued eating the white bread, white rice, and white pasta. When his blood sugar level surpassed the 500 mark, he had to be rushed to the hospital. They had to give him insulin intravenously. The doctors informed Larry that, due to the constant spiking of his blood sugar level, his pancreas had stopped secreting insulin, so they were giving him insulin to get his blood sugar level back to normal. They also informed him that if he didn’t change his diet, he could lose his vision and maybe have limbs amputated. His appetite had to be disciplined immediately!
Larry changed his diet – eating more fruits and vegetables. He ate brown rice, whole wheat bread, and wheat pastas instead of the white counterpart. His doctors told him that when eating the white pastas and white breads, it was like eating sugar because of how fast it turned to sugar when it hit his tongue. He drank plenty of water instead of soda pop or juices. Eventually, his blood sugar level was normal and his doctor was able to remove him from the insulin.
Food should be fuel for our bodies. But if our appetite is out of control, food can be our worst enemy. Consistently eating too much of the wrong foods can
