About this ebook

A Siren's Tail: Luna de la Mar Salon & Spa (As the Chair Turns Book 2) Delia Belaquoit was like any one of us—working hard, living her life, chasing her dreams, and achieving some modicum of success along the way. Great job, wonderful friends, singing in a band. She thought she'd hit the jackpot until everything she once believed in began to unravel...

Delia here... Hi, again! Magic does exist and people in Boca aren't what they seem. Shh! No one is supposed to know.
When my former well-organized life blew up in my face, I decided I needed answers because the metamorphosis I'm undergoing isn't following any known pattern. Remember when I used to be a sun worshipper? Now I'm exhibiting symptoms I don't even want to think about.
Turns out there are certain aspects of my family tree that're disrupting my humanity. Wait 'til I find my family. Just when I need answers, they disappear. Poof! Vanish. Except Edna, my great aunt. But she's not talking. Some freakish sea monster stole her voice.
Unbelievable! Right?
They are all so in the doodoo doghouse for keeping everything from me.
Thankfully, my witch friends are charming me through my dilemma and our search for answers. Frankie, our alpha Werewolf boss, is doing his best to keep me safe. The guy is loyal to a fault, even if the wolf in him doesn't have a faithful bone in his body. So when Aelric, my on-again-off-again-not-really-a-boyfriend, asked him to protect me from sources unknown, Frankie jumped on it. I still think he has ulterior motives.
I'm eventually planning a monogamous relationship, just not yet. Frankie wants to "turn" me, but the monthly waxing effort makes becoming one of his pack out of the question. Aelric, the handsome Coast Guard captain, did make a few serious romantic overtures and almost "sort of" proposed to me, but he hasn't managed to take me on a first date yet. Nor has he told me exactly what he is. Hope springs eternal. Because he did kiss me senseless, wowed me with an impressive unspeakable power move, then left me again. Now I'm alone with more questions. But I'm determined to get my own answers and find out where the threat to my family is coming from.
Oh there's more... It just gets better every day. Why don't you hang with me and see what's in the cards for this month? The supernatural salon and spa staff, as always, are here to help."

    A Siren's Tail - Eliza March

Hello. It’s nice to see you again.

If we haven’t met before, I’m Delia. Short for Adelaide, I sing in a band and manage the poshest salon in Boca. I’m of mixed heritage. Exactly what, I’m hoping to determine. Now I’m about to discover a whole new secret about my family.

One side has a musical and theatrical background. At a hundred plus years, my Great Aunt Edna, who doesn’t look a day over fifty, performed in a local cabaret. We all suspected routine nips and tucks, but her personal trainer and so-called plastic surgeon are magicians. She’s also keeping an even bigger secret. I know because I ended up privy to Boca’s dirty local secrets.

Sam, Edna’s handsome husband is still doing character parts in independent films in Miami. His last role was a gunrunner for Werewolves. It wasn’t much of a box office success, but the subject hit a little too close to home for my comfort. I’m beginning to suspect Uncle Sam knows Boca is a city full of paranormal creatures blending in. Shifters, werewolves, witches, vampires, etc.

I love managing at Luna...until the full moon. The consensus and I question if I’ll make it through another month. Also, my personal life, once non-existent, is now a catastrophe. I’m best friends with the local werewolf pack’s alpha, who’s also sort of my boss. We had a one-night stand in Vegas. So wrong, I know, but that’s it, despite his constant attempts to get in my pants.

The other man in my life looks like a Nordic god and kisses like one too. He’s a Coast Guard Commander who hasn’t managed to show up for our first date, but he parted the Atlantic. Go figure.

Recently some creature bit me that I thought was a vampire and though I’m not supposed to be turning, something weird is happening to me. I managed to get through the prerequisite three months without biting or killing anyone, but my symptoms keep changing. I need to find out what I am because... Well it’s a long story... Thanks for coming back for what has turned out to be my ongoing saga. I’m calling the events taking place in and around Luna de la Mar Salon and Spa ... As the Chair Turns.

    Introduction

A Siren’s Tail - As the Chair Turns: Luna de la Mar 2

I need to evaluate what happened during the last few weeks, so I may as well fill you in about where things stand with me for the moment...

Gram and Mom claimed to be recuperating from the whole saving Edna ceremony thingy. But my entire family disappeared the day after the event. So before I can confront them with questions like

What am I, and what the hell is going on? I have to find them. Because my great aunt can’t speak—something about a sea warlock curse—and my family left a bizarre message about going on vacation, I thought I’d begin my questioning with Aelric. A man who can part seas should be able to answer a few simple questions for me. But that didn’t happen, either. Why?

Exactly... He had done the disappearing act, too.

So, the last time I saw Aelric was not long after he parted the seas, impressing me and blowing my mind at the same time. At least this time, he’d warned me in advance about the potential to be called into the Coast Guard’s service again without notice. Not that it makes accepting our situation any clearer or easier for me, but at least I believe he would stay if he could.

You might say I was a little confused by his "I’m coming back for you, but you’re not ready yet" comment. What the hell had he meant by that? What modern day woman would sit around waiting for a golden god who tossed out that lame line after kissing her senseless?

    Not you? Well...maybe...not me, either.

But you’re right. I shouldn’t. I am not holding my breath waiting for him, though.

Yes, I am sulking. I keep thinking about that kiss and his promise...and don’t forget he pushed back the freakin’ ocean. I know. I know. I’m also cursing a lot lately. I think I have good reason.

And... I haven’t seen Edna yet. But I have checked with her caregivers. She’s slowly regaining her strength and her voice. Sam was completely clueless about the whole attack. Maybe we should be grateful for that.

Frankie claimed he didn’t really know much about supernatural sea creatures, and my faery memory bank just isn’t locating any information I can use, either.

I’m thinking of asking the Nyads if they know anything. Or that elf. He seemed to know a lot about me.

My patience is running out. And I’ve been fading in and out in front of mirrors lately. So much so that I’ve avoided walking in front of them. As you can imagine, it’s not an easy thing to hide my disappearing act as a hairstylist who stands in front of mirrors all freakin’ day.

From the time I started doing hair, I realized the mirrors are a portal into my world of hair. I not only use them for styling, I talk to clients through them. I don’t really ever look at myself, but after all of these years, I find it more difficult to make eye contact with someone when I speak. Old habits die hard, I guess.

The customers cannot see me fade, or there’ll be hell to pay. So now, I have to look at people when I talk to them, and at all costs, I must avoid turning them towards any of the mirrors. Not getting caught hasn’t been easy.

It’s hard to cut a straight line if I turn them away from the mirror. It’s about balance and uniformity for the finished style.

No one knows how to control my image issue. I’m fading in and out without warning. Any slip ups I’ve blamed on the humidity. In Florida, everyone blames everything on the humidity.

No arguments there. Even though the air is cranked down to seventy degrees for our hot flash clients.

    Update complete? Let’s move on...

Chapter 1 - Going From Here

    Knock. Knock. Knock.

I lowered my head into my hands and moaned. Sooner or later, the whole supernatural community would know about the Siren Cove event. For now, Carrie and my closer friends would already be aware that my great aunt Edna had been attacked by what she claimed was a sea warlock, a male version of a sea witch. She’d silently insisted I arrange a water-healing ceremony at the cove. Her request had been silent, because during the attack, she’d lost the ability to speak.

    Don’t ask.

Personally, I am still in shock over the whole incident and all the revelations I’d been exposed to since I’d gotten the job managing Luna de la Mar Salon and Spa. Honestly, my entire life and everything I’d ever believed-in felt like it had been turned into chopped lettuce in a salad spinner, without a lid.

By the way, in case you are new to my recent fiasco, Franco de Wolf, who is sort of my boss, is also a werewolf. Duh, it’s complicated. Yes, a real werewolf. Strange you say? Well, I think so. And yet, it is not the strangest thing I’ve encountered recently. Because, that’s the least of the issues with our former and present...I don’t know what to call it...let’s say it’s a relationship. Oh, did I mention he’s not only a Were but also the local pack’s alpha? At first, I believed being gobsmacked over my boss was the real stumbling block in our relationship but then I discovered he wasn’t actually in charge of me. His grandmother was. I did mention things were complicated?

Then of course, there is my other crush. He isn’t an infatuation. He’s more like a lightning strike, a golden god who looks like Thor on steroids. The resemblance doesn’t end there. But as fate would have it, I don’t believe Aelric is human either.

The Coastie is a Coast Guard Commander and the guy I have my heart set on at the moment. Keep in mind, I’m still young and impatient, and despite all of our attempts, we haven’t managed a real first date. Also, there is an issue with identifying what he is. Besides super hot. In my mind, the jury’s still out on his species, but I haven’t had the chance to ask. Who am I to judge? I haven’t figured out what I am yet.

When I believed we, Aelric and I, were both human, I felt a certain affinity to him. Now I’ve discovered I might not be human at all, and trust me, he’s definitely not some run of the mill guy you bring home to Momma without an explanation. If I was willing to wage my life on anything, it would be that he isn’t
