THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED
To my wife Sylvia Ann who has been behind me and has given up numerous hours and a lot of patience while I have first learnt how to write children’s books and now to hopefully be a success in the adult world of literature.
And to ‘Red’.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Special thanks to my proofreader/editor, Morgen Bailey. Without her guidance and expertise this book would not have been, in my opinion, the works it is now and I can’t thank her enough.
To Mark Neale who is always at hand when I need advice computer-wise, and his printing know-how is invaluable. Many thanks for his knowledge and friendship over the years.
Through Facebook, I have gained many readers from all over the world. The books have reached as far away as New Zealand and in the USA. In fact there is not a continent they have not reached. I thank you all and as well as readers, I class you as newfound friends – a friendship that I hope will last for many years to come.

LADY CATHERINE
Two souls combine,
An apparition introduction.
Behind the cloak and hood,
A beauty seduction.
Travelled through on a dream,
But turns true to the flesh.
A beauty locked in time,
Comes back after death.
On the prowl for a victim,
Alexander King she chooses.
Her beauty and manipulation,
Are the weapons she uses.
Visions of illusions,
Well planned out heists.
To a dagger awaiting,
A love sacrifice.
An opportunity to travel,
Back to the scene.
Of a designed life waiting,
Which starts with a dream.

CHAPTER ONE
A GHOSTLY INTERVENTION
As I was typing away on my computer, all I could think of was the hands of the clock reaching five. I’m Alexander King, a P.A. for Bazeley Publishing Inc. Although I’m a cockney chap and very proud to be, I work with the elite of the London publishing industry, and have worked hard to get where I am today. My boss, a middle-aged lady named Barbara, had, as usual, wound me up all day, but thankfully it was nearly the weekend and I could get some respite from her carrying on about this and that, but she’s the boss, and I suppose the pay is rather good.
I was in a great mood on arriving back at my flat in the posh part of Chelsea. It’s Easter weekend and I’d booked a cottage in a village in my favourite area of England, Torquay in Devon. An early night was on the agenda as I intended to travel down in the small hours of the Saturday morning.
After six hours’ sound sleep, I jumped into my hire car and had a perfect journey of not much more than four hours. I find travelling so early far less stressful and it gives me another day’s holiday.
I was pleasantly surprised that the cottage was idyllic and its gardens perfectly formed into a suntrap that was ideal to get a bit of colour on my pasty body. I had a feeling it could be the break I needed from my, at times, dull lifestyle in the manic world of modern day London.
After unpacking and making myself breakfast, I decided to explore the countryside near to the picturesque village. I felt good that the sun was so hot for that early in the day, just as it should do at the start of a holiday.
I was in a reflective mood as I walked round a small lake, which adjoined a gigantic mansion. There were no signs saying no trespassers, so I presumed it was just a perk of living in the village that you could walk its perimeter, but I had a feeling I was being watched.
I walked cautiously along the side of the lake, and then turned to catch out the culprit, but to my relief nobody was around except a pair of swans swimming aimlessly in circles while a large fish jumped into the air and then swam peacefully away.
Shrugging, I thought no more of the incident, until a few minutes later when I suddenly came out in a cold sweat as I felt a feeling I’d never encountered before. It was as if someone or something had passed straight through my body. I was so weak that I sank to my knees, my pulse was racing and sweat rolled from my brow. The first thing I could think of was that I was having a heart attack. Surely not, I felt far too fit for that, and only in my thirties.
After a while, I had recovered enough to get to my knees and then, in turn, carefully got on to my feet, my head in a whirl. Usually I’m a calm and level-headed person but it had really shaken me up and I was scared of what had just happened. I put my walk on hold and decided the cottage was the best place and a brandy seemed the perfect plan.
Back at the cottage, I slumped into the fireside chair, drink in hand, and it wasn’t long before an eleven o’clock nap. Well, I was on holiday and boy, did I need it.
On waking, I opened my eyes, quickly shutting them again at what I saw. Surely I was still dreaming. So I opened them again with just a squint. It was no dream. Standing before me was an apparition of a young lady. She wore a black hood and cloak. Her hood was down so you could see her long black hair draped over her shoulders. The best way I could describe her was that she had just walked out of the TV advert for Scottish Widows Insurance, in fact a cross between Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry who I thought were the most beautiful women I had ever seen.
I presume everybody is supposed to be frightened at seeing their first ghost. I can’t explain it but it wasn’t in that case; I felt such a calming influence, as this lady ghost was the most gorgeous woman I had encountered in all my life.
I closed my eyes and then slowly opened them again. I don’t know what I was expecting but she was still there. I reached out to touch her but my hand went through her body and all I grasped was… nothing. I was right; it was my first ghost. My hands were clammy and I came out in a cold sweat for the second time that day.
I couldn’t take any more. I needed to know what was happening to me. Whoever or whatever it was, a ghost, or perhaps even a guardian angel, I was so mystified that I blurted out, Who are you and what do you want?
She gave
