    Trump’s Campaign

    Before Trump became president, nobody took him seriously. He was a businessman who paid whomever he needed to get his hotels built but he was the joke of Republicans who were pro-choice on paper. More than 80 percent of his contributions were to Democrats and he had only voted in a single primary, but more than anything, he never really cared about politics.

    Despite Trump winning the Republican nomination by 2016, the Senate Majority Leader wanted the Republican party to take all funds from Trump at all costs. Reince Priebus who was, at that time, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, tried to tone down Trump’s comments in calling Mexican immigrants rapists. However, he understood that burning bridges with Trump was wrong so he played both sides.

    An article was released in the New York Times in August 2016 with the headline, The Failing Inside Mission to Tame Trump’s Tongue and it was full of quotes that leaked from the campaign team. Everyone knew that every word was true but Trump lashed out at his campaign manager, Paul Manafort. Steve Bannon who was running the conservative news website Breitbart at that time, began comparing and contrasting Trump with Hillary. He showed her as an elitist crook and someone who thinks the country is going well while Trump was the everyman who doesn’t feel the same way. Bannon tried fighting for strong immigration and closing borders even to the legal immigrants. He fought for isolationism and populism as Trump would "Make America Great
