About the Author
PREFACE
How do you view your life?
To me, life is an opportunity and a blessing. It should be embedded with purpose and filled with potential. Life is a story written from birth to death by its author, the individual who lives it—in other words, you. Life shouldn’t just happen to you—you should make it happen.
Now, many would argue you are not in control of your own life. You can’t help what happens to you and, therefore, you are helpless to alter your destiny.
Not so.
Your life outcomes are directly related to your responses to your experiences, whether you initiate those experiences or not. Picture your life as voyaging on a sailboat—while it is true you do not have the power to change the direction of the wind, but you do have the power to adjust your sails
and set a new course. Otherwise, that wind will send you helplessly moving in whatever direction it dictates.
There is always a choice, even when you believe there is none. You can either make the kinds of transformational decisions that will bring you closer to what your heart desires, or you can simply accept whatever fate throws at you. In either case, whether you approach life actively or passively, you are still determining your future.
So why not choose to make your life the best it can be?
How to achieve success has been a mystery filled with questions that have confounded most of humankind throughout its existence. Questions like:
Why do some people seem to achieve success on a regular basis—while others constantly fail?
Why do some toil overtime with little to show for it—while others work less but excel far beyond the norm?
Why is it some have as little in their bank accounts at the end of their working lives as they did at the beginning?
The search for the elusive secrets of success has been ongoing for centuries—and I myself have spent years on my own personal hunt for the truth. I have asked and looked for the answers to the above questions for over a quarter of a century in an effort to find common traits shared by those who have enjoyed overwhelming abundance in their lives. And I’m happy to report that, through my studies, I discovered 9 unifying principles that they applied to themselves in order to find fulfillment in their personal and professional lives—principles I call the 9 Universal Laws of Success.
The idea behind this book is simple—to share these life-changing laws of success in one easy-to-understand, engaging, and thought-provoking format, so that you can read them start-to-finish and then apply them to your own life. By doing so, you will be guaranteed success, purpose, happiness, contentment, health, wealth, and actualization of your desired destiny.
Let me be clear—I did not discover these principles. They have always been in existence. I only gathered them together in this book as a service to you, the reader. In doing so, I must express extreme gratitude to the many successful trailblazers who helped me discover these laws and understand how they work. These are the people whose works I have researched, whose books I have read, whose recordings I have heard, whose seminars I have attended, whose counsel I have sought and implemented. Some of these great thinkers will be directly acknowledged in the chapters to come. I suggest you too delve into their works, so you can more fully comprehend the material I’m about to present in this book.
Success, of course, is most powerful when it adds to everyone’s lives, not just our own. That is why it is my hope that within these pages, you will also find a higher cause for living and develop a higher consciousness in your approach to the world.
I wish you much Success!

INTRODUCTION
Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret of success.
- Swami Sivananda
Let me begin this book with a secret, a very big secret. Success isn’t a faraway goal. It’s something you can experience right this minute.
That is not, however, how most people perceive it. Most view success as a fixed-point destination, an objective reached after a targeted effort, a point in the future where their dearest desires are fulfilled—after which, they can just kick back and relax. Everything they wanted is achieved and there is nothing more to do. The struggle is over.
However, the reality is this: The journey itself represents success—and that journey, when approached correctly, joyfully encompasses every day of your entire life.
Success is not a static state. It is a perpetual, continuous condition and an active ongoing quest—it’s the progressive awareness, pursuit, and realization of worthwhile goals, aspirations, ideals, objectives, and desires that you deem to be important. You are the one who determines what success means to you, not those around you. Success is defined by the subject, not the object; the author, not the reader; the initiator, not the imitator; and the actor, not the audience.
Think about the most successful individuals throughout history, up to and including today. Legendary figures like Abraham Lincoln, Madame Curie, Thomas Edison, Galileo, Sojourner Truth, Benjamin Franklin and Steve Jobs made their mark through relentless innovation, rigorous self-improvement and the constant challenging of contemporary norms. They disrupted conventional wisdom in their own remarkable and very unconventional approaches to their work and their lives. By doing so, they brought out the best of what was in themselves and made the world better for it.
They didn’t wait for acceptance and consensus. They didn’t let the past chain them down nor allow the future to scare them off. Instead, they did what they felt they needed to do in the moment to create progress for themselves and for the world.
They lived in the now.
And so should we all.
Now is when you should embody the spirit of your own personal success. Now is the time you should focus your thoughts and your actions to produce the most beneficial results possible. The past is gone and can’t be reclaimed. The future? It hasn’t arrived yet and we have no idea what it holds for us. Now is the only time we can control—and that is what makes this moment so valuable. As a wise man once said, Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
Of course, you want to take full advantage of this gift—by infusing your Now
with action and purpose. Now is the time to begin to tap into your full potential—and, undoubtedly, you are anxious to begin that process.
The question is—how? What kind of general methodology can serve your very specific aims? Where can you acquire the kinds of objective and time-tested guideposts that will keep your success journey on track and your mindset on point?
The answer is within the pages of this book.
Most disciplines are defined by certain laws that have been proven to be consistently true. That’s certainly the case with science. When Isaac Newton witnessed apples fall from a tree in 1665, he noticed they always fell in a downward direction, never sideways, nor did they ever reverse direction and fall up. The notion that an apple might fall any other way but down might seem silly to us today, but back then it was a revolutionary concept—and gave birth to Newton articulating the Universal Law of Gravitation for the first time in human history.
Laws like Newton’s are absolute and concrete, not theoretical. There is no guesswork involved in a law. A law is definite as well as definitive. It provides predictable results. You can rely on a universal law, as it continually creates identical outcomes. The law of gravity dictates the apple does not fall sideways, balls don’t roll uphill, and none of us can jump off a roof expecting to fly like Superman.
Similarly, the universal laws of human physiology make it clear we can’t expect to breathe without air or survive without food or water. The laws of math tell us we can’t take away two dollars from four and expect to have three dollars left. And
