    About the Author

    End Notes

This book is fondly dedicated to my parents, Edward and Eleanor Orlowsky, who taught me early in life that I could be, do, and have whatever my heart desired!

And to Dr. James William Parker, my friend and mentor, who encouraged me to put these thoughts on paper.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

W riting a book is a major undertaking, and yet it is a labor of love. There is an old saying that if you ever want to learn or master a subject, write a book about it. The Principles of Inner Success is a subject that I was exposed to early in life, and I have been studying it ever since. I did not fully realize this fact until I made the decision to put down on paper all that I have learned on this subject. Nor did I realize that many of these principles were taught to me as early as my childhood by my parents, grandparents, teachers, and theologians.

I have been very blessed my entire life, and although early in my life I may not have been aware of it, I have always lived a life of abundance. To begin with, I had wonderful parents who brought me up in a warm and loving home, yet they taught me all the valuable lessons of life that responsible parents teach their children, such as right from wrong, honesty and integrity, and how to get along with and respect others. Most of all they taught me a belief system that even they may not have been aware of: when I grew up, I could be, do, or have anything my heart desired if I put my mind to it, was persistent, and worked hard. Along the way I was exposed to many people who taught me much in the area of life principles that shaped my character and my destiny in life.

As I journeyed down the path, there were many mentors that lent advice, direction, and a helping hand. The first and foremost was my uncle, Frank Edwards, who gave me my first real job and taught me the restaurant business. He taught me to work hard and to be a perfectionist. He was a tough boss and made me learn every job in the restaurant from the bottom up, not realizing that later in life I would one day manage the chain. He taught me to love hard work and the benefits it produced. As a result of that hard work, I became self-sufficient at a very early age. By sixteen I bought my own car and motorcycle, paid my parents room and board, bought my own clothes, and personally paid for my entire college education—bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate—without school loans.

After graduating with a doctor of chiropractic, I sought out one of the finest and most successful clinics in the country to do my internship. It was there in Pasadena, California, that I met one of my most important and influential professional mentors, Dr. John Thie. This chiropractic master not only let me work with him side by side but also taught me everything I needed be a successful doctor of chiropractic—one that not only gets excellent results with patients but also changes lives. It was Dr. Thie that exposed me to many of these inner success principles, and he taught me in such a way that helped me become a healer above being a doctor. Dr. Thie also led me to my next mentor, Dr. James William Parker, the president of Parker Chiropractic College and Parker Seminars, based in Dallas, Texas, the largest postgraduate seminar program in the profession. He became a very influential mentor, and we developed a close, personal friendship that lasted almost twenty years until his death in 1997. It was on his request, within hours of his passing, that the foundation of this manuscript was laid.

While attending the Parker Seminars for over twenty-five years, I have had the extreme pleasure of not only teaching my areas of expertise to the entire chiropractic profession but also taking classes and learning from the masters in all areas of life. I have learned much from the likes of Bernie Siegel, MD; Louise Hay; Deepak Chopra, MD; Nathaniel Branden, PhD; Barbra De Angeles; Wayne Dyer, PhD; Rev. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale; Rev. Dr. Robert Schuller; Foster Hibbard; DC; John Gray, PhD; Dennis Waitley; Bob Proctor; John Demartini, DC; Mark Victor Hanson; Jack Canfield; just to mention a few. Each of these mentors have strong principles. B. J. Palmer said over one hundred years ago, The men of principle are the principle men. It is so true, because all great lives are fabricated and lived through principle. I have to thank each and every one of these extraordinary people because they all shaped my life, my beliefs, and this manuscript.

    INTRODUCTION

T he purpose or this book is to lay down a clear and concise lesson plan for the mastery of life’s conditions using the natural, innate principles for inner success. These principles are the laws of your own inner universe, and when you use them effectively, they will help you to fulfill your potential, whatever that may be. Success is truly an inside job. What I am about to share with you are the natural laws of life, principles, and great truths that will give you the inner strength to achieve outstanding success in all areas of your life. They will also be most helpful in times of great difficulty and adversity. This is not a how to do it book from the outside in. This is a how to live book from the inside out.

The philosophy I am about to share with you is timeless. These principles are fundamental truths that have been studied since the beginning of time. They are unwavering laws of inner success that affect all areas of life and circumstance we encounter throughout the time we spend here on earth. The principles found in these pages are the major premises found in every success philosophy and every major religion of the world; they are woven throughout the Torah, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Koran, the teachings of Buddha, and the Holy Bible. You will see that fundamental truths never change—they are just as important today in this new millennium as they were two thousand years ago in the days of Christ. The rules are simple, and they will not only be a road map to make your dreams your reality but will be most helpful when there are challenges or obstacles that are in your way and make life difficult.

The principles of inner success you are about to learn are the sum total of what I’ve learned over the past thirty years while studying the subject of human potential. I compiled, organized, and presented these principles in a systematic approach to allow you to grow at whatever tempo you prefer, from the inside out, until you reach your own destination at your own pace. By developing your own success consciousness, that ability to program your subconscious mind to visualize and manifest positive outcomes in almost every situation, you will develop a natural, constant, and never-ending focus toward the achievement of positive results in all areas of your life. This focus will truly assist you in making your dreams your reality.

As we begin this journey toward inner success, there is something important I want each person reading this book to understand. You already possess on the inside all that you need to be successful. When you learn to tune in to that fabulous power within, you will feel the inner strength and confidence to be, do, or have anything you want. The key is to let go of the negative attitudes, habits, and feelings you accumulate within, and to align yourself with nature using these innate or inborn principles for inner success.

There are many people who will begin reading this book and say, Nothing has helped me before. I’ve tried everything, and nothing seems to work. I understand this thinking completely. You see, the reason nothing has worked for you in the past is because you are always trying to add something from outside to make you different. Strategy-based approaches only work to a certain degree. Any success system or canned formula can tell you what procedures, scripts, or action steps to take to improve your position in life. It will help some, but not completely. The challenge is not telling one what to do; the challenge is improving self-image and confidence and revealing from within that one deserves to be successful. This is an identity-based approach with the goal of creating your own self-actualization. You see, when you grow the individual from the inside, you naturally become more successful on the outside regardless of your endeavors in life.

The Principles for Inner Success will not attempt to add something to change you or to make you different on the outside. Instead, it will help you grow by shedding the negativity in and around you, in order to bring out the best in you from the inside. The best has always been there, hidden deep within your subconscious mind. The goal of this book is to bring that blurred vision into sharp focus and to the forefront of your awareness.

We all have many excuses or reasons why we haven’t lived up to our potential. There are two main barriers, or internal roadblocks, to inner success that affect us all. The first barrier is our limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs may have come from our upbringing and childhood experiences; they come from listening to our authority figures, whether good or bad, right or wrong: our parents, preachers, teachers, and authority figures. We consciously and subconsciously accepted what they taught us, and we acted out their behavior by matching and mirroring what they did and said as we went through life. Limiting beliefs can also be deep-seeded and difficult for most to address. We sometimes live a lifetime with these limiting beliefs without realizing it. People with strong limiting beliefs live most of their lives in the past; they do great harm over a lifetime and hold many back from fulfilling their potentials. Limiting beliefs on the inside creates a feeling of low expectations and a lack on the outside. Limiting beliefs limit your success, health, and happiness because they hold you back from making your dreams your reality.

The second major barrier to success is the failure to take action. Procrastination and fear holds back the potential of us all at times. How often have you looked back at a situation and said to yourself, I should have done this or that. If only I took some kind of action, these circumstances would not have happened? My two primary goals for you are to help you deal with your limiting beliefs and with your failure to take action. The life principles discussed in this book will help you deal with getting over, under, around, or through these two primary barriers to your inner success.

Most people do not develop the conscious ability to use these principles to harmonize their thoughts, actions, and feelings for their own benefit. Success is hit or miss to the vast majority of the population because subconsciously they do not feel that they deserve success and that it is unattainable to them. They feel that their only path to something better is by hard physical work and long hours, which can lead to emotional as well as physical exhaustion.

However, as you learn and develop a keen awareness of how to use these principles to your benefit, you will naturally begin to attract abundance in all areas of life from the inside out. By using positive attitudes, actions, and feelings, along with the law of attraction, you as an individual can change your internal environment and magnetize your external environment into you. This will allow you, as Dr. James William Parker once said, to attract the naturally right persons, places, things, situations and circumstances in to you, which will help you grow more abundant in every area of your life.

Although it may sometime seem so, this is not a religious book. It is a spiritual book written from the higher planes of life to stimulate your inner growth. The hint of the divine is laced throughout. You see, you cannot align the power of the universe with the innate intelligence within you, unless you make a conscious decision to get off the physical plane of life and move up to live on the higher levels of life, the mental and spiritual planes. When your internal belief system aligns your inner being with the power of the universe, then you cannot help but become a more spiritual being. You may even begin to notice the divine in everything you do and experience. You will suddenly realize that what you previously saw as obstacles have miraculously become blessings. There will come a time when suddenly you see, through your inner eye, that there really aren’t any coincidences in life. You will perceive that there is a divine plan specifically for you, if only you tap into it. Everything happens for a reason, and everything was created for the purpose for which it fulfills.

    Nature Is Naturally Abundant

Take a minute and stop what you are doing right now. Look around you and observe your environment. You will notice that everywhere around you is abundance; there is no lack or limitation anywhere. This is because there is no lack or limitation anywhere in the universe. When you cannot see or find abundance in all areas of your life, it simply means you are out of flow with the power of the universe. You may actuality be fighting the flow of universal power into you without even knowing it—that’s like trying to swim upstream and wondering why you are getting nowhere. Go with the flow and move with the current. If you get in tune with the natural force within you, you will automatically be in tune with the natural laws of the universe and the principles of inner success.

You should look closely at nature, because you will learn that abundance is all around you. The next time you are at the beach, observe the abundance of water in the ocean. Take a bucket and try emptying the ocean; observe what happens. Nature abhors a vacuum, and quickly water rushes in to take the place of the water you removed. There is no lack there. Try counting the particles of sand on the beach. Impossible! Again, nature is abundant. Take a walk in a forest and observe the trees. There is never a struggle for trees to grow. Watch how fast the grass grows on your front lawn this spring, and the weeds as well. Observe what happens when a well-groomed field is not maintained: within a few short years it becomes a forest. Nature always moves forward and in abundance. The universe is naturally abundant in all areas and is always working for your benefit. All you have to do, as an individual, is become aware of this phenomenon and become more in tune with nature. When you consciously tune in to the source of all abundance, nature will give you what you feel you deserve to have. The key is that internally, in the inner workings of the subconscious mind, you as an individual have to believe it! Bob Proctor says, See yourself living in abundance and you will attract it. It works every time, with every person.¹ If this is true—and it is—then the only real thing left for you to do is to make the personal decision to tap into this natural abundance.

Let us institute the framework for this inner journey to greater abundance by defining what I mean by the term inner success. I will begin by sharing for you what is meant by success in the outer world and then move within, to lay out for you a clear and concise foundation of what I mean by inner success.

    What Is Success?

So what is success? To each of us, success is different. We are all individually unique; what is successful for one may not be successful for another. Each of us may have our own ideas of what success should be, feel, and look like. To some, success is how much money one makes. To others, it is the accoutrements one possesses, such as a car, a job, and the type of home. All of us strive for these material things, but they are merely superficial. What I have just described to you is success on the physical plane. The physical plane is your outer environment.

For the purpose of this work, I would like to use the benchmark definition of success by Earl Nightingale, considered the father of motivation in America. He said quite simply, Success is the progressive realization of worthy goals. Nightingale went on to say that success is a journey not a destination. It is not a place to go, but a way to be. Therefore, success is a process that can be achieved in your outer world, on the physical plane, by following a definite plan or roadmap to where you want to go.

This is a terrific definition, however as you can see, this characterization is a strategy-based definition to be achieved by following a specific plan. The flaw is that it does not address the individual or their inner self. We can all be shown how to be successful by learning the strategies applied to our specific field of endeavor or business, but because we are all emotional and spiritual beings with different feelings about our self-images, we grow at different rates.

You will see that success exists on several other planes concurrently, including the mental and spiritual planes. These other planes exist in our internal environment within the conscious and subconscious minds; this is where we generate our inner success. What I want you to realize is that success is different for all of us, yet we all have something in common. The common denominator is that we all are working to feel good about ourselves on the inside, and to achieve something or some level that makes us feel accomplished in our outer world. Let me give you what I feel is an outstanding, fundamental definition for inner success.

    What Is Inner Success?

Inner success is the inner feeling of worth or self-image we feel about ourselves that originates from and is generated by the subconscious mind. Self-image and how we feel about ourselves are the most important factors for inner success. Dr. Fabrizio Mancini once said, It is not external circumstances that define us, it is how we feel about ourselves on the inside. Success has always been an inside job; it always was and always will be. If you do not feel good about yourself on the inside, if you do not feel deserving, then you will always have difficulty going through life. To truly be and feel successful, you must first develop success within before you can manifest it in your outside world. That is why this book will be primarily concerned with training your subconscious mind to work for you. Inner success is a feeling: how you think, how you act, and ultimately how you feel about yourself on the inside will determine your outside level of success.

Inner success is that ability to train your subconscious mind to affect your outside world. Inner success is identity based. You will never have true, lasting success on the outside without having it on the inside first. Your inner feelings about yourself and who you are will determine your attraction value and will be the most important determining factor of your outer success.

As we begin this journey together, I want you to realize that success is not just making money. Money is not enough—without health and happiness, success is incomplete. As we travel this inner road together, you will develop a clear picture of how success, health, and happiness come from within and originate with how you feel about your inner self. They are in fact generated from the power within the subconscious mind. Therefore, I want to help you learn how to train your subconscious mind to work for your own advantage. This is how you make your dreams your reality.

For centuries man has asked himself these fundamental questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What am I supposed to do? Where am I going? Every person on earth, regardless of his or her socioeconomic background or level of success, has struggled with these seminal questions sometime in his or her life. How do we as individuals answer these great philosophic questions and apply them to our own lives? Philosophers have been struggling to answer these questions for millenniums, and so I will not attempt to expound on complicated, in-depth answers to these questions. However, I will give you a simple, uncomplicated, layman’s perspective of how we should view these questions as they pertain to our everyday lives.

Who am I? As human beings, we are the hierarchy of the advanced metasystems here on earth. We are the dominate life form who was given the godlike power to think. This distinguishes us from all other animals by giving us uniquely human characteristics such as self-consciousness, tool making, imagination, planning, playing, sense of humor, and feelings. With these abilities come free will and the empowerment to choose our destiny.

Why am I here? I believe each and every one of us is here serve mankind and our world in some unique way. The key is to simply follow our destinies.
