    A Novelette by Michael DeFellipo

Is it too late to turn the car around?

I briefly glance from the dark road ahead of me, casting a half-serious glare at my boyfriend. We were less than an hour and fifteen minutes away from our destination. The snow was falling so densely that it looked like fog, and it was accumulating at a rapid pace. He already knew the answer. I love him too much to let him think otherwise. It’s time to put the final nail in the coffin.

Yes, it’s way too late. You’re trapped.

Aaron turns to me and even in my peripheral vision I can tell he’s a man with a plan. His blonde hair peaks out from the edge of a dark blue beanie he has pulled over his head. What if I buy you a present? Or, ya know, give you road head.

I wink at him. Tempting, but no. Nice try, though.

Christmas is in two days. Presents will be given then. There is no need for Aaron to waste anymore money on me this season. We already set our budget, met it, and wrapped that debate. Literally. Money wasn’t an issue for either of us, but we enjoy keeping things simple. Easy. Life and love are about so much more than luxuries, vacations and special gifts. They’re about time and energy, too. The moments that are instantly committed to memory because they’re absolutely perfect and mellow.

Damnit Hayden, he grits his teeth at me. Don’t you think this was something I should have been made aware of before I agreed to tagging along?

He’s talking about the bombshell I just dropped.
