The Journey from Death into Life - Freida Edwards
SPECIAL THANKS
Iwould like to give a special thanks to my dear sister Rita who has suffered so much in the last few years. Her help in editing and proofreading my book has been invaluable. She is a sweet soul who continually reads and studies the Bible and offers up prayer to God on behalf of all those in need of prayers. May God bless her, and keep her, and make his face to shine upon her, and be gracious unto her. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon her and give her peace (Numbers 6:24-26). Thank you to my sister and my best friend who encourages me, believes in me, and makes prayer for me always.
Love,
Freida
DEDICATION
This book was published in loving memory of my dear sweet sister Mary Ann who left us far too soon. It is also dedicated to her husband Bill and her daughter Charity, who both love her, miss her, and grieve her passing greatly.
The book began as a handwritten journal to her daughter with scriptures of hope that eternal life awaited her mother and all of us who will follow behind. It was written with the desire to provide comfort amidst overwhelming grief, sorrow, and loss. My hope is it will provide strength to her family as they face the unthinkable and give assurance that life everlasting awaits when our last breath is taken.
FOREWORD
You will find the definition of death in almost every dictionary to mean the end of life; so it will be for us here on earth, an end of life. Losing a loved one through death is catastrophic. The pain never goes away, and life will not be the same for those left behind. However, the Biblical view of death is clear. Although death is separation of the spirit from the body, it is never a state of unconsciousness. It is a place of awareness and perception. It is a place of rest for the saved but not for the lost. In fact, death is the final phase before stepping from this life into the next: eternal life, everlasting life, and a place called heaven as promised by our Lord. What a glorious and wonderful hope given to us. Be encouraged. Be reassured. Be comforted. Think on these things as you read my book, THE JOURNEY FROM DEATH INTO LIFE.
INTRODUCTION
There are no words to comfort someone who has lost a loved one, whether it be a father or mother, a brother or sister, a child, a husband or wife, a grandparent, a niece or nephew, a best friend or someone else in your life very dear to you. Death is no respecter of persons not in age, race, color, or economic class. Death can come unexpectedly at anytime or place. Illness, disease, accidents, war, and in modern times death at the hands of someone else is all too common.
The Hebrew writer speaks of the dread and fear of death that plagues us our whole lives through. In our youth we do not think about death, but as our age increases we are more aware of the approaching appointment with death. Hebrews 2:14-15 tells us, That through death he (Jesus) might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Our Lord has clearly paved the way to deliver us from the fear of death by promising eternal life to those who follow him. When the last breath is taken, there is comfort in knowing that God is a God of the living not of the dead.
As my dear sweet sister lay dying, no words could comfort her daughter or husband, but the scriptures give us hope. The answer to how and why this happened may never be clear to us in this life. Why did she die
