Come to Me: Why Come to the Lord?
By Matthew Kaye
()
About this ebook
Jesus told us long ago, "[C]ome to me...and I will give you rest." This work stems from an understanding of who the Lord is and why he wants us to come to him. It is not about prosperity but about humility-who Christ was and his true power and glory. It is the reason for this book, the Lord's love and saving grace for those who "come to him."

Foreword
There is no place more beautiful than in the arms of God.
It is the one place where all our needs are fulfilled and the greatest meaning in our life is satisfied. It is the reason for this book.
And it stems from a yearning to share the good news,
but not just about the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John—rather a spotlight on why we, as a modern people, need to come back to our biblical roots.
This book is not intended to criticize where we are as a society or what’s happening inside our churches. We are all aware of these changes. The theme intended here is the why of our need to come back to God.
Mark 10:27 (KJV) for example says that with God, all things are possible.
It is one of the best known biblical verses. Yet, what exactly does it mean, and how do we apply it? Can I have that shiny, new Ferrari with God’s help? Or is there some other meaning at play here?
We read in Proverbs 1:33 (KJV), [W]hoso hearken unto Me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
Does this mean that whomever draws close to and follows the Lord shall be free from evil or danger? Or is this protection manifested more subtly?
The Lord Jesus Christ promised those that followed him and did the will of the Father would have eternal life, salvation in his kingdom, but for so many today caught up in a materialistic, success-oriented culture, that path seems near impossible. So why should we even try?
The answer is the reason for this book—we should try because the greatest meaning in life, the most profound, most sustaining, most fulfilling, far and above all others, is that our very existence is God-given. It is from God that all power stems, and it is with him that all things are possible.
True riches are not what you have in your closet or garage, they are what you have in your heart.
God is the one who is rich, not us. If you want to see true riches, look out your window at the vast forests or fields or hills. Look up at the night sky, at the uncountable stars. The distances are immeasurable, yet God has left his handiwork on all of it.
These are riches. God is rich, and without him, we are poor. If you want riches, they are already here—for you. All it takes is an unswerving, unending, unchangeable belief and faith in the Lord. That is where true power, true wealth, eternal existence, resides.
Thou openest Thine hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing
(Psalm 145:16, KJV).
Jesus told us:
[D]o not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and robbers break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy, nor robbers break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Life on this earth is but a mere few decades. The rest of it is spent in eternity. We should spend it with God, now and later. That is where the power is. That is where the wealth, our spiritual fulfillment, is. And that is where our treasure should be—with our creator, the creator of the universe.
Jesus says in Matthew 19:24 (NIV), [I]t is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
True power and wealth should not be measured in currency and material goods—that can be lost in a fleeting moment—but rather in the eternal and forever lasting.
That power and wealth is available to us now, here. And we don’t even need to die for it. Our Lord and Savior already did that, paying the ransom for the sins of all mankind.
Jesus Christ redeemed us, showed us a different, much better way. His is the power that we need to live for. It is why I was driven to write this book—because true power and wealth resides not in us, but in God, and it is the Lord we must live for first and foremost.
The Lord is the answer to our greatest needs and prayers, our protector, our comforter, our life-long friend, our eternal parent. Love and glorify the Lord, the purpose he made us for, and he will be with you forever.
Chapter 1
Here and Now
It’s been said that all good things come from God. Indeed, God is good, and all that he created, he pronounced good. It is man’s sinfulness that changed things, starting with the original sin of Adam and Eve.
But this doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy the Lord’s goodness now, even though human beings continually suffer with sin.
The Lord Jesus Christ laid down his life so that we could have salvation, forgiven of and freed of our sins, and then he rose again, overcoming death—a resurrection witnessed by hundreds.
Had it not been for Christ’s resurrection, there would be no Christian faith, no reason to believe that through the Lord, we could be saved—not just from eternal death but from the penalties of sin, paid with Christ’s ransom and delivered as eternal life.
But think about this: what does eternal
mean? It means undying, everlasting, unending life.
Does that mean it starts upon our physical death? If it did, would it be eternal? No, it would be finite.
For eternal life to be eternal, it must truly be unending. It must start the moment we are created, born into life. Our Lord is our lord because he is the way, the one and only way to that eternal
