important information for my inspirational

collection to make sense.

Dear Friends,

My first lesson in humility for Volume 3 of Cinnamah-Brosia’s Inspirational Collection came from an assumption. Right. Those are never a grand idea.

When God spoke to me about writing this book, he clearly gave me the subject: Love. I immediately headed to 1 Corinthians 13 – The Love Chapter of the Bible. Of course the book’s title would be The Essence of Love. The end material of The Essence of Joy announced the new Love title coming in 2018.

And God laughed. I read 1 Corinthians 13 over and over again. It whispered humility over and over again. I called my dear friend – the one I consult with on every one of these books – and said, You know what? Listen to this. Love is patient – humility. Love is kind – humility.  Love is not arrogant – humility. You get the idea. Every single line of this beautiful passage comes down to the barest bones: humility. We both laughed a little, too. And we thanked God He clarified His instructions.

To live and love like Jesus requires us to humbly trust God and to humbly serve others.

In Philippians 2, the Apostle Paul presents a lengthy discourse on the humility of Christ. It begins like this:

If then there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, sharing the same feelings, focusing on one goal. Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

~Philippians 2:1-4

God led me to focus on humility along with more common everyday botanicals and plants – those familiar to us today. The fun came as I dug those plants from Scripture. I pray you enjoy the connections as much as I did uncovering them and connecting them to Jesus’ life, and to a whole list of characters who lived on the pages of the Bible along with our contemporaries here in the 21st century.

A Few Hints for Using this Inspirational Volume

1. Cinnamah-Brosia and Friends Share Their Stories: These fictional characters introduce us to common fruits, aromas, and botanicals sharing their own stories about the essence in their lives. (All the stories in the Cinnamah-Brosia and Friends Share Their Stories sections are based on events shared by real flesh and blood women. The stories have been fictionalized to fit our characters and timelines appropriately, as well as to protect actual identities.) They prepare us to discover the essence in Scripture and to meet a woman of the Bible whose own life exemplifies its attributes. C-B loves essential oils, baking, music, and God’s Word. She spreads that love around. In these sections you will become better acquainted with her, learn what she’s diffusing, and discover the café’s special of the day, a song that’s playing, and the Scripture verse she’s posted. (The oils chosen for diffusing may not be the same one featured for that fruit, spice, or botanical, but they are ones typically readily available and complement the essence for that selection. Songs playing are an eclectic variety of old and new Christian music. We hope you know and love many of them, and others will become new favorites. Just like what’s diffusing, each song was chosen to complement the subject matter.)

note: All Cinnamah-Brosia and Friends stories are narrated by Cinnamah-Brosia unless otherwise indicated by the conversations occurring at the Coffee Cottage.

2. The Essence in Scripture:  a devotion that speaks of the fruit, spice or oil in context of Scripture. All personal stories included in The Essence in Scripture sections are drawn from the author’s own experiences.

3. A Woman of the Bible Experiences the Essence: a devotion featuring a woman of the Bible who experiences some aspect of that essence in her life. All personal stories included in A Woman of the Bible Experiences the Essence of sections are drawn from the author’s own experiences.

For both the Essence in Scripture and A Woman of the Bible... realize real people like you and me reside between the lines of Bible stories. We considered how their culture impacted their lives and how, in turn, it impacted their interactions with each other. Certainly, details may have been different than depicted, but the ones shared are definitely plausible. There’s something to learn from each one. You may see each person in a different light than the picture you have in mind. We see each other in different lights, too. Thank you, Heavenly Father, You see us through the Light of Jesus.

4. Essence Droplets: a collection of Fun Facts about each fruit, oil or spice; and Your Turn provides practical ways for you to incorporate them into your world.

Many of the characters in the Cinnamah-Brosia stories were introduced in the first
