Stitches and the fried breakfast
Picture and character by Holly Bell
Stitches quite often and probably too often has had fried food. He has bacon, eggs, sausages, and fried bread. One day he had a very bad tummy ache and Tommy said he must go and see the doctor.
They got ready after breakfast and ran down the road to the bus stop to catch the number 11 bus to the doctor’s. Stitches was holding his tummy all the way to the bus stop because it was hurting him a lot. They got into the doctor’s and the nurse called out,
Stitches, in you go to see Doctor Jones.
Will you come in with me Tommy?
said Stitches.
Ha ha, yes I will,
laughed Tommy.
Ahhhhhh Stitches, hello,
said the doctor, what can I do for you today?"
Stitches told him that he had a bad tummy ache and it was really hurting a lot.
What have you been eating?
asked the doctor.
I’ve had bacon, fried bread, sausages, eggs, and beans,
said Stitches.
The doctor sat there with his mouth wide open and said,
Stitches, that is the worst breakfast you can ever eat. No wonder you have tummy ache.
The doctor told Stitches that all the fat from the fried food goes into his body. It stays there and is not good for you.
Am I really unwell?
asked Stitches.
Don’t be silly Stitches,
said the doctor.
He told Stitches that he will make himself very unwell, and he will put on weight if he keeps eating too much fried food. It’s really bad for you the doctor told him.
I have porridge sometimes,
said Stitches.
That is so much better,
said the doctor, Porridge oats, cereal, fruit, and yoghurt. That is what you should be having for your breakfast to stay healthy.
Tommy told the doctor to leave it to him. He would make sure Stitches eats good and healthy food.
Do you eat fried food too Tommy,
asked the doctor.
Tommy went a little red in the face and blushed as he told the doctor that he also ate fried food.
Well, both of you start to eat good food and come back and see me in 3 months time,
the doctor said.
The very next day Tommy and Stitches had a big bowl of fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, juice, a banana and an apple. They really enjoyed it. They carried on every morning having good food to stay fit and healthy.
