About this ebook
Ever felt like you have to constantly tidy up just to maintain a lasting order in your living space? Do your papers continue to pile up like walls threatening to close in on you? Do your garments continue to heap up like an impassable mountain of interwoven fabric? Then perhaps you're doing it wrong.
Marie Kondo, world-renowned Japanese author and tidying consultant, introduces you to a technique of organizing you have never known before. This innovative way of tidying promises that you will only ever have to do it once—you will never have to tidy up again. Other home-organizing techniques promote tidying by location. What people do not know is that it will take you inordinate amounts of time to sort through your belongings if you implement such methods. Marie Kondo's technique—the KonMari method—is a type of progressive organization that boasts long-lasting results. Countless success stories and a three-month waiting list can attest to the effectiveness of the KonMari technique.
Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up gives an in depth set of instructions for determining which of your belongings spark joy and which simply do not. A bestseller in several countries, this book highlights the new trend that has taken Tokyo by storm. Come home to a place free of clutter, and discover the wonders of a tidy home.

Context
When Marie Kondo, author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, was studying sociology at college, she published a thesis study entitled How to Declutter Your Apartment. At nineteen, she became a home-organizing consultant. After some encouragement from a person on her waiting list, she finally set forth to write her very own book. Kondo's book proposal found its way into the hands of Tomohiro Takahashi, a publisher based in Tokyo, and eventually became available in print in Japan during the late months of 2010.
When the Tōhoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit Japan in March of the year 2011, people were forced to live in conditions of such disorder before they could fully rehabilitate. Kondo's newly published book gained recognition among the masses who wished to start afresh in their new homes.
Before reaching the United States for publication in October of 2014, Kondo's book was translated in multiple languages and topped the charts in the United Kingdom and Germany.
Marie Kondo's Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up was put in print, as said by the New York Times, "quietly and to zero fanfare and acclaim. Kondo’s inability to speak English made promotional radio and talk-show appearances hard sells. But one day, a New York Times Home section reporter happened upon the book and wrote an article discussing her own attempt at applying the KonMari method to tidying
