    Bibliography

I dedicate this book to my sister, Florence Harrison, whom I love. I so appreciate her inspiration and encouragement. Our combined years of experience working with youth and families helped to produce a book that we believe is a message and a teaching that has greatly influenced not only our lives but the lives of the families we have touched and taught and who have discovered what it means to be equipped for positive living. What a treasure to have a sister like her.

I also dedicate this book to my sister, Victoria Archer, who has been instrumental in implementing our Nurturing Generation to Generation program.

In addition, I dedicate this book to my fourteen brothers and sisters whom I love. They have influenced my life in more ways than I can say.

Finally, I dedicate this book to my deceased parents. Were it not for their being such truly godly parents and leading us into positive living, we would not be the family we are today. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for giving us the life intended for families everywhere.

A house is built through wisdom and is established by understanding. Your children are filled with all precious and pleasant riches through the knowledge you give and the examples you set.

    INTRODUCTION

Families need to be educated on how to deal with one another. You can actually learn to alter your and your children’s feelings and attitudes. New nurturing behaviors can replace hurtful ones that could cost your children emotionally. I am sure you would rather build happy, healthy interactions in your family than live with problems no one ever taught you to solve.

I was moved after a visit to a county juvenile delinquency court where I heard young people and parents crying out for help in their communication process. These children felt they were not being heard and parents were at their wits end. For many of the parents, their own life experience had not set the best of examples and no one had offered them Parenting 101. As a result, hit and miss, and trial and error had led them and their young teens to the courthouse. For the teens, inability to follow appropriate guidelines, lack of consistent discipline, the inability to take responsibility for their appropriate and inappropriate behavior, and disrespect were leading them down a wrong path. It was certain that parents needed practical tips, tools, and guidelines at their disposal.

Do you want a home where there is warmth, trust, care, and respect? Do you want a home that creates an environment for self-development for each of your children? Do you want assistance with elevating love, acceptance, and self-esteem in your home?
