Developing Childlike Faith In A Mighty God

    INTRODUCTION

A veteran man of God narrated a story of his ordeal and how he employed his childlike faith in a mighty God in an emergency situation. He was to travel together with his wife for crusade organised by a church. Due to his tight schedule that day, they did not take off on time. The wife urged this man of God that they should put off the journey till another day, realizing the fact that the road they were to take was a death trap where bandits could operate at night. She gave fair warning to her husband of the impending danger if they were to travel at that awkward time. However, her request and persuasion not to travel on that day was turned down instantaneously, and they took off very lately.

On their way to the crusade, they met a gang of armed robber. The wife, seeing the dreadful and belligerent robbers emerging from the bush, was panic-struck. She had a premonition that something terrible was going to happen to her and the husband. She sensed that they were vulnerable to brewing attacks of the blood-thirsty brigands. She remained tongue-tied and apprehensive. However, the man of God was unperturbed and ignored the hysterical disposition of the wife. He put his little, simple and childlike faith in the mighty God.

He stopped and alighted from the car. He prayed a simple, short and childlike prayer of faith, Father God, please help me in the name of Jesus. He then proceeded towards the bandits. He greeted them and confronted them with the message of salvation in Christ Jesus. He appealed to them to give their lives to Jesus. They asked him how he was so audacious to even preach to them. He then responded by saying, I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthen me. When they got to know that he was a pastor, they asked him to go safely. They did not harm him or the wife. It took some time before the wife could come out of the nervous breakdown by the horrible encounter with the bandits.

Exercising childlike faith in a mighty God in time of an emergency often appears to the majority of the Christians as impossible or difficult. Some people have the feeling that the extent and measure by which God relates with us depends on how devoted we are. Moreover, they maintain that exercising faith in God for explosive and dumbfounding miracles is an exclusive right of some devoted ministers of God who have time to fast and pray for a long time. Hence, they undermine their faith. In this regard, they are too timid to put their childlike, simple and little faith in the Almighty God. It is on this note that this book establishes the possibility and power of childlike faith in the mighty God of Israel for superlative miracles. The fact remains that a man or woman of faith is not the one monopolising God but the one whom God monopolises. This implies that God begins to have sole rights in you as you relate with Him in your childlike faith.

However, childlike faith in the mighty God is faith built on knowledge of the word of God. Childlike faith in the mighty God is not delusive but valid. It is a redemptive heritage in the household of God. Also, it is a cable line that transmits the Holy Ghost fire and power from the Almighty God to our frail and decrepit lives by which we become transformed into the glorious image of Christ Jesus, the power and
