About this ebook

When an occasion demands words, as they do, it's all too easy to blabber on and never actually say what we mean to say. Words then become hidden, like a raindrop from a cloudburst disappears into a puddle, emotions diluted by a tumultuous outburst. Being a bit of a blabbermouth myself, I decided to apply a little restraint and employ the economy of word when writing this collection. Saying all you need and making the point with four short lines has been the order of the day, well, for this day at least.

    Foreword

    Sentiments

    In verse

Is a collection of 800 four line (quatrain) rhyming verses. Classically themed but unusually defined. The twenty titles and subsequent subtitles cover subjects that are dear to all our hearts as we travel through life.

The collection will play with the heartstrings of the committed poetry reader as well as being an ideal introduction to poetic verse for the novice. Sentiments in verse is packed full of inspiration for anyone searching for those perfect words.

Easy to read the collection is delightfully humorous, romantically sensitive, and yet, as deep as the ocean it carries its poignancy lightly.

The collection will capture the reader’s senses with its addictive, turn-page qualities. As much an essential reference book of sentiments as it is an enjoyable escape.

       Funerals

       To the closely bereaved:

    01   A farewell or goodbye

    Is obvious with a wave

As are all the tears we cry

The love in life she gave.

    02   May you find Godspeed

To seize this day and win

    Know the day will recede

    But memories never dim.

03   Today we need not borrow

Nor us beg or even steal

    Tears that show our sorrow

    Our belongings to reveal.

04   Stop today with just a name

    Standing stones our loss

In given time to roll again

    Gather no more the moss.

05   Today carries all our sympathy

    The poignant words we say

Only a day it just may be

    How heavy must it weigh?

    06   Crisscrossed lines you see

    Simply kisses of support

They form a web of sympathy

In which we all are caught.

    07   When us mortals understand

By God’s hand all life is written

    To follow this almighty command

Would seem to be quite fitting.

    08   Like a river’s timeless flow

    Life meanders constantly

    Both then as changelings go

To fill the vastness of a sea.

09   When the long day ends

Dust will settle on all grief

    Little motes just like friends

    From mess will bring relief.

10   As one sun is setting

    Another will be rising

There is no sense in betting

    Results are unsurprising.

    11   Newton’s fine equation

    Reactive to all changes

    A mathematical persuasion

    That all form just rearranges.

    12   Questions we all ask

    Search the grieving mind

It is indeed a mortal task

    The answers we must find.

13   We cannot hide our grief

In salt lines a mark it traces

    Deep the well from beneath

    That empties on our faces.

14   Is this to be the final act?

Or is there more to find?

No one knows that’s a fact

But no reason to be blind.

    15   Today my heavy heart

    Cannot empty all its sorrow

When day ends and we part

    I’ll grieve again tomorrow.

    16   As days pass
