Born in 1969, James Olagoke Awofolaju hails from Osun State,ile-ife Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the Ogun State University, Nigeria, Post Graduate Certificate in Education from University of South Africa , Diploma in Project Management from Academy of York in South Africa and a Master of Science degree(in view) in Crop Science from the Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa. Awofolaju is a Christian Minister and is the publisher of the Christian lifestyle newsletter (The Peace), the Gospel Communication. He lives in Kwa-Zulu-Natal province of South Africa with his wife, Fawole Priscilla with their children.

INTRODUCTION

Indisputably, life is all about purpose. It has been said times over, that, a life without purpose is no life. There is, therefore, fundamental need for us to identify the purpose of every area of our life endeavors. This need is underlined by the fact that there is little or nothing to achieve when one lives a life without one purpose or the other. For when endeavor is pursued with purpose, success is, most times, certain and attainable.

Purpose should not be misconstrued with the mission and vision statements made and used by individuals and corporate entities. Purpose is much more than some well-crafted statements. It is supposed to provide answers to fundamental questions of why we do what we do. A purpose, whether personal or corporate, is our fundamental reason of existence.

Therefore, in business, as in everyday life, whenever we are not sure which way to go or where next to turn, the solution is usually to connect back to why we are where we are, or why we are doing what we are doing. In this regard, purpose provides direction, focus, a clear and solid understanding of what we do in business and in life, and why we do it and how it benefits us and others.

Insight into the way life works and what is necessary for businesses to grow and be sustainable, comes from efforts being in clear alignment with purpose. The same dynamics is true of people. When one knows one’s personal purpose, one can consciously align oneself, interests and actions, with what brings meaning, satisfaction and fulfillment to one’s life.
