    Introduction

We live in times when rebellion is at its peak in all sectors of the society and the most violent are seen as the most vigorous and victorious. Disobedience to a norm in order to achieve an end is now equated to victory achieved.

Governments have suffered defeat as their own drift away in disobedience. The coups we have experienced in the past, the civil wars and tribal animosity all over the world all point us to one word: REBELLION! A softer word has been used often to conceal the magnitude of the act: disobedience or freedom.

It is amazing that the church has not been immune to this. Among many other factors, the mushrooming of ministries and churches in our world today sometimes arise from disgruntled individuals who do not pledge allegiance to divinely instituted authorities under their jurisdiction. Thank God He works even in such conditions!

The aim of these statements is not to demonise anyone or lay blame but to show that there is need for a revival of obedience in all ranks of the society. All relationships cannot work until this principle is restored back.

Christ portrays to us a perfect picture of a life lived in obedience. We need to emulate him again. This will be done with a cost but it will be rewarding and it can be done. There is a cry for the restoration of the obedience driven life. It is our responsibility.

This book explains obedience from the scriptural point of view and its relevant applications to our daily life ministry and relationships. Self evaluations and section summaries at the end of each chapter will be helpful in helping you interact with the material rather than be passive. I shall be happy if someone will be exhorted to live an obedience driven life thereby making a contribution to wherever he is or whatever rank he or she holds.

    Have a Blessed Moment.

    Rev. Bernard.K.Kimani.

    Chapter One.

    What is Obedience?

Obeying God means walking in His paths. It includes religious belief and the moral behavior accompanying that belief.

The Hebrew Words used for Obedience in the Old Testament can be summarized to five basic meanings[1] namely:

    To listen or to attend.

    Submit.

    Put one trust in.

    To follow.

The Greek words for obedience used in the New Testament can be summarized also into four basic meanings[2] namely:

    To keep.

    To observe.

    To keep watch over.

    To take to heart.

From the above derivations, one can hence define obedience as adherence to, submission to or simply put, to yield.
