CHAPTER 1
The Big Feast
Kalix, Volix, Salix and Valix are all brothers, who live with their dad in a small town in the middle of nowhere in the United States of America. Kalix is twelve years old, with blonde hair and an extreme liking for the colour orange. Everything in his bedroom is orange of different shades. The carpet, the curtains, walls even down to the cover on his duvet. Volix and Valix are identical twins, and a year older than Kalix. The only difference to be able to tell them apart is a small birthmark on Volix’s right cheek and their liking for different colours, Volix likes green, and Valix likes blue. Salix is the same age as Kalix, with a freckly face and ginger hair, just like his brothers extreme liking for different colours, Salix has an extreme liking for the colour purple. Everything in the boys bedrooms is different shades of their favourite colours, just walking into the boys bedrooms, is like walking into an artist’s paint palette. The town that they lived in was only a small town, one of those small towns, just like a quaint English village, where everyone knows everyone, and pulls together as a community when people need help; their neighbours were no exception. They lived next door to Anima and her nephew, Pavel. Anima looked after the boys; she baked things with the boys, and looked after them when their dad was at work. Anima and Pavel even took the boys to the local orchard and let them pick apples. Anima, Pavel and the boys all came back with two bushels of apples each. When they got back home, Valix told his dad that they had been to the orchard, and then he proceeded to show his dad the bushels of apples that they all had. That evening they all got to cooking things with the apples, making Apple Pies, Apple Sauce, and Apple Butter. Whatever you can make with apples, you name it, and they made it!
The next day, all four of the boys were indoors, watching wrestling on television, which is their favourite thing to watch. All of a sudden, there was a huge flash of lightening and crack of thunder, right over the house, when the power suddenly went off. Again, there was another huge crack of thunder and flash of lightening causing the boys to jump. Initially shocked, the boys looked at each other and started laughing; Volix ran to the window and looked out to see a torrential downpour. He turned to his brothers and said, It’s absolutely pouring out there, now what do we do?
Salix replied, Why don’t we carry on with the activity packs that daddy sent us?
Therefore, with that, they all got their activity packs and started to get on with them. The boy’s daddy lives in England, where he was preparing for the boys and their dad to move over to England, so they could all be together.
It was a very wet and stormy day, during the boys summer holiday from school in their small town. There had been several days of extremely hot weather, so the rain brought respite from the blazing hot sun. All four boys were busy with their activity packs and happily chatting and laughing with each other, that they did not realize that it had stopped raining and the sky was brighter than normal. Salix looked up from his activity pack, just as a ray of purple light fell across his side of the table; he turned to his brothers, Wow! Look at this, it’s Purple!
Kalix, Volix, and Valix looked to see Salix and his side of the table bathed in purple light. As they all looked on, each brother’s side of the table bathed in light of their favourite colour. Valix got down from the table, and went to the window and looked out.
Look at that!
he shouted to the rest of them, the others went to the window and looked out; they could not believe what they were looking at.
It’s impossible,
Kalix remarked,
What is going on?
exclaimed Volix, as they continued to look out of the window, the light became more intense until it was almost white, then it faded again, so each colour of light could clearly be seen, after the white light had faded.
Salix’s eyes opened wide, Are you ok Salix?
enquired his brothers together, but all Salix could do was point, as what he was looking at made him speechless. The others looked in the same direction to where Salix was pointing, and they too became speechless and wide-eyed.
As the boys looked out, a bright rainbow stretched its way across the cloudless, sunny sky. The coloured rays of light came from the rainbow not just any rainbow; it was completely different from any other rainbow that they had seen before, it only had four colours. These colours were Orange; Blue; Purple, and Green. Still standing speechless at the window, Valix looked, and in the distance saw a figure waving to them. Kalix saw the figure too, only this time they were beckoning them to come over, all the boys remained where they were.
We must stay here… ,
said Salix quite sternly, We don’t know who they are!
They all agreed to stay in the house, as they all knew not to go with strangers. The intensity of the light rays lessened, and to Kalix’s amazement, he realized that the figure waving to them, and beckoning them over was Jaxon.
Kalix turned to his brothers, It’s ok, it’s Uncle Jax, and he will look after us
Jaxon was his dad’s best friend, back when they lived in another much larger town, Kalix always called him Uncle Jax
, but sadly Jaxon had died, but continued to look over Kalix and everyone else, making sure that they were safe. Jaxon beckoned the boys over more forcefully than before.
Kalix said to the others, Look, Uncle Jax really, really wants us to go over there, he is waving even more.
The brothers collected their jackets and trainers, and started out towards the four-coloured rainbow, and to where Jaxon was standing. Jaxon was the Prime Minister of Kavosava, although the boys had no idea where they were, let alone know that Jaxon was the Prime Minister.
As the boys finally reached the place where Jaxon and the rainbow were, they could not believe their eyes, there were creatures there that they had never seen before. Valix noticed two birds standing at the entrance to the area, with their tails spread like a peacock’s only, only these did not look like your usual peacock. These two birds were gold, with silver wings and their tails were as red as fire. Kalix looked on, and saw what he thought were horses all walking around, but he had to look again, because he could not believe what he was looking at. What he thought were horses, were not horses at all, they were Unicorns! The Unicorns had bodies that were shimmering, brilliant white, with a spiralled iridescent pearl horn; they were pulling silver carts laden with all sorts of items; food; plates; goblets. Kalix shouted to the others,
Look, something is going on over there, I have just seen Unicorns pulling silver carts, with all sorts of things on them.
As the others looked in the direction of where Kalix was pointing, they saw all manner of different creatures that they had never seen before. There were some, which from a distance, looked like monkeys. The entire area surrounded by, what looked like birds, but they all appeared to be taking orders from a Peacock! Valix shouted in amazement to the others, Look at that!
they all turned quickly, to see a host of what looked like Dolphins and Whales, swimming up a shiny, silvery river that led right to the area where the rest of the creatures were.
Hold on a minute, this can’t be possible, there are no rivers near here…
exclaimed Volix, so how can they be swimming up a river that isn’t there?
Everyone looked again, and sure enough, there were Dolphins and Whales swimming up the river towards Jaxon.
The boys continued to walk towards the place where Jaxon was standing, Volix, Salix were walking behind Kalix, and Valix, talking with two polar bears dressed in armour made of solid silver. They could not believe that they were talking to two Polar bears, walking upright just as if they were, and carrying spears made of sparkling diamond. Salix turned to Volix,
Are you sure we are awake?
gently pinching Salix on the arm,
Ouch!
cried Salix
Yes we are awake!
said Volix, laughing.
Another two polar bears joined them, and walked alongside Valix and Kalix. At first they were wondering what was going on, then when the polar bears began to speak, they jumped in surprise and turned to tell Volix and Salix, only to see that there were two polar bears in armour talking to them. Kalix and Valix went back to walk and talk with the second pair of bears. All the boys looked surprised, but carried on talking with the bears.
As they walked along talking to the bears, the bears suddenly stopped and bowed their heads, and lined up side by side, Your Majesties, this is where we leave you.
With that, the bears bowed their heads again and stood by the side of the pathway, two on either side facing each other, Kalix turned to the others, Did those polar bears just say, Your Majesties?
The other just nodded in agreement, as they were just as shocked as Kalix. As the boys neared the peacocks, the peacocks spread their silver wings, spread their fiery red tails, and bowed.
Valix remarked, What is this all about? Something funny is going on here
To which Volix replied, You’re right there, this sure is a strange place, but we are still in our town, look our house is over there, you can still see it!
turning round and pointing towards their house.
As they passed the peacocks, everyone who was around the table, stopped what they were doing, turned to face the boys, and bowed their heads. The boys chuckled and smiled to each other. Kalix looked around with a shocked expression on his face, they all looked around with shocked expressions, because they had no idea what was going on. Kalix saw Uncle Jaxon standing by the table,
Look, Uncle Jax is over there
As he pointed, Salix, Volix and Valix looked and they saw Jaxon standing by the table, they all ran over and gave Jaxon a hug.
After the boys had given Jaxon a hug, they saw a creature, which looked like a monkey walking towards them.
Hang on, why is there a spider monkey walking towards us?
asked Volix
Your Majesties, it gives me the greatest honour and pleasure to welcome you home to Kavosava!
Salix laughed, He can’t be a spider monkey, he has only got two legs, and spiders have eight!
everyone laughed, including the monkey.
Who is that?
asked Valix, turning to Jaxon,
That is Sir Makavar Atelese, but we call him Max for short.
Max turned to the boys and bowed before taking his leave. Then a huge magnificent peacock strutted towards them with his head held high, and his chest puffed out.
Your Majesties…
said the peacock taking rather an elegant bow, I am Sir Pavero Cristatus, a your command
Pavero Cristatus?
questioned Volix, "I know
