Duncan Mckenzie He’s an enigma and a great enigma! (March 2011)

I remember been in my mothers womb kicking whilst my parents were on holiday in isle of white.

As a toddler I rammed head first into a glass door and smashed glass. I needed to go to hospital to have a piece of glass removed from my head I was left with a scar on my forehead.

As a young child I watched Brum, Tots TV, Tumbledown Farm, Thomas The Tank Engine and Rosie and Jim. I attended Thorn Nursery in Bacup. I was hospitalised with Meningoccal Meningitis when I was 2 years old. My dad rushed out of work to see me. He was told by the nurse that the next few hours would be crucial in terms of my survival. I was in hospital for a week. Whilst in the hospital I had a stuffed bunny with me. A girl kept stealing it of me. It was not long before I was in play area playing. I suffered low pitch hearing loss in right ear as a result of the meningitis. My learning was set back by 6 months—my personality was changed as a result of the meningitis. I would scream at people who poked their head in my pram.

In 1995 I was circumcised. I ran around the back garden with no shorts on due to the pain.

I enjoyed playing with my cousin Emma Joyce at my grandmother’s house in Shaw, Oldham. We invented the weirdest games but they were fun. The petrol game was one of the games we invented. We poured water into a jug and poured it as we walked around my Nan’s garden. We’d then need to stock up on more petrol (water).

In Reception Class I was noted for my sense humour, which was already well developed.

In Year 1 I gained a love of Mathematics but my English was very poor and needed attention. I was shouted at by the teacher for demanding we do more Mathematics. I was accused of disrespecting the teachers teaching method.

I was not intending to disrespect Mrs Robertson teaching methods. Mathematics was my favourite subject and I just wanted to do some more Mathematics. I shouted out in a demanding way and with hindsight I can understand why I came across as being disrespectful to the teachers teaching method.

In Year 2 I became one of the naughty boys a rule breaker and I was placed on the naughty boy table. I stuck my hand in front of my mouth and made farting noises that the teacher Ms Bunting thought to be very rude. My parents were called in often to speak about my behaviour. My teacher declared that I was the rudest little boy she had
