    Preface

Life is what we make it.

This is the usual saying we hear. But is life really what we make it? Or is there a controlling power over our lives?

As we go on with this short story of my life, let me tell you that life is not how we make it. There is One Above who has plans for each and every one of us. Jeremiah 1:5 says: Even before I formed you in the womb, I have known you….

Another verse in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know what my plans for you are, plans to save you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and to give you hope. (Christian Community Bible/Catholic Pastoral Edition).

I was inside my car waiting for my two grandsons Austin and Owen to be dismissed from their classes. Cellphone in my hands, scrutinizing the messages received from my fb friends. One message caught my attention. It said, Do you know that God is always there for us and He is the Lord of the Sabbath?

The message came from Leah, a friend from the Philippines. We have been friends since year 2013 and most of the time she discussed the Bible with me. We argued on some things and agreed on other things.

Yes, as I thought of her question, it came back from my memory the things that happened in my life. I repeated the question in my mind, Is God really there?

I believe in God and how He called me to join His fold from my wandering in this sinful world.

    Later, you will know why I believe it was God who planned for my life and He guided me along my life’s journey to find;

    The Way

    Chapter 1

I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 30, 1947. I was raised by my Grandparents David and Agnes Blackburn. We lived in a little house on Foxley St., in the west end of the city. It was a small short street, two blocks long, that ran from Ossington Ave to Dovercourt Rd.

There were eight of us living in the house at 74 Foxley St. My uncle John and I lived downstairs with my grandmother and grandfather, and my Uncle Red lived upstairs with my aunt Emily and their two children: Christine and Danny.

My grandfather was a Tool & Dye maker at Goodyear Tire in New Toronto, my grandmother stayed home and looked after me. My uncle John was a Baker for Wonder Bread, and my uncle Red was a Streetcar and bus Driver for the TTC in Toronto.

Kids can get into lots of trouble at that age when the person watching was an alcoholic and has passed out in her chair. It was a good thing that my aunt Emily was watching over us when I tried cooking the soup still in the can with no water in the pot and the soup still in the can. I could have burned the house down had she not come down the stairs and caught me.

I started Kindergarten when I was five years old and that was when everything began to go bad for me. My grandmother and my mother took me to the school to enroll me, and after that my dog Mike took me to school every day.

Mike would walk me to school in the morning and wait until I was in the classroom before going back home. Kindergarten for me that year was wonderful as I had my first crush. I fell in love with my teacher. Everything that year was amazing to me, and she was the apple of my eye…

I was five and she was the most beautiful girl in the world. I was never in trouble and every report home was good. My dog Mike used to come back to the school at recess to play with me, then return at lunch to take me home. After lunch he would bring me back to school and wait for me to go inside. And return at recess again to play. Mike would pick me up after school and take me home. I was always with Mike, we were inseparable. It was a wonderful time in Kindergarten.

Then summer came and school was over, and we stayed home for the summer. I thought of her often during the holidays and could hardly wait for the summer to be over so I could return to school. But what a surprising thing happened, something that broke my heart… And I did something that was not very nice. I will explain.

When I returned to school in September I tried going back into my old class with my teacher, but they told me I had graduated into grade 1
