About this ebook

Put on your spiritual lenses and prepare to comb through the pages of lifes love, pain and joy. Open your mind to culture and open your soul to adventure. This collection of poetry, thoughts and songs are the real life painted experiences of Leslie Saint-Julien. For the first time ever, Leslie invites us to look into her mirror and stare as she tells you what she sees. For the first time ever, this young woman is speaking with her soul and instructing the world to hear with their heart her every word. There are many tones and emotions expressed in this collection of writings which is why More Than Me means more than you imagine. To know love, to know pain and to know joy is the journey of this book.
More Than Me compels you to go deeper into yourself and explore the corners of your soul that have yet to be introduced to you. More Than Me was arranged at a time where Leslie realized that she was not alone as she navigated through life and overcame so many obstacles. She realized that God has been and will always be with her at every step on her pathway and it is more than her own efforts that have gotten her to where she is today. Finding a love that makes you want to sing, enduring a painful experience that makes you a strong giant and feeling such joy that it seems like a summer breeze even on the coldest day. This is more than you think and more than you. This is More Than Me.

    POETRY CAFÉ

    Bon Soir

    BON SOIR

    Good evening ladies and gentlemen.

It is my pleasure to introduce myself to you as a new poet to the scene.

First, I would like to pay homage to the poets that have paved the way for me to even be

    – in this place:

Poet Queens like Phillis Wheatley and Maya Angelou.

Poet Queens like Alice Walker and Gwendolyn Brooks.

Without these Queens I would not be able to publish this book.

Poet Queens like Nikki Giovanni and Lucille Clifton.

Poet Queens like Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, an abolitionist and free.

I thank you Queen for paving the road for me.

Poet Kings like James Weldon Johnson and Langston Hughes.

Poet Kings like Etheridge Knight and Tupac Shakur.

Kings indeed, need I say more?

Sterling Brown, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, George Moses, Ishmael Reed,

Sonia Sanchez, the spirit of Lucy Terry bleeds!

Saul Williams, Kevin Young, Margaret Walker – songs unsung!

Wole Soyinka, Gil Scott-Heron, call on them if your spirit hears them!

Bon soir! Bon soir! Bon soir!

    Je m’appelle Leslie Saint-Julien.

Good evening! Good evening! Good evening, I say!

    Leslie Saint-Julien is my name.

    Broken Betrayal

    BROKEN BETRAYAL

When I was seventeen I met face-to-face with an Awful Monster

He introduced me to his father The Destroyer and Enemy of Righteousness

I became acquainted with who I thought was the Guide

through the labyrinth of a road to happiness.

What I recognized as destiny to have arrived at my door

Turned out to be the prerequisite for the course of betrayal I was about to endure

    And so, it began…

But where do I really begin?

Shall it be at the moment when my lips quivered

after we committed our first sin?

    Where do I begin?

Perhaps on that day when I opened up the door and let a vampire in?

    Where do I begin?

Maybe at that moment, when you finally realized that you did not win?

Oh I think I’ll start right there.

You seem to have forgotten who I am.

    And have forgotten
