About this ebook

This book of poems takes a fresh look at common everyday occurrences. The author, noted for her keen observations of even the simplest things - such as acorns laying scattered across a road - paints a picture in the reader's mind that brings the poems to life. With these vivid images in mind, an emotional chord is struck between the reader and the author as she shares special moments that have touched her heart.

The poems range from the light-hearted subjects of the antics of the author's beloved pets, to more reflective topics, as in the need for nature conservation, or thoughts about living life that is true to one's self, and to the needs of others.

This book touches the inner core of all of us, and is a fun, and sometimes thought-provoking collection of poems. In a day and age where life is so technologically-oriented and fast-paced, it is nice to know that the art of poetry still exists...where the beauty and play of words can touch people and make them smile.

    Little Angels

Over the course of my lifetime, I have had numerous pets—primarily cats and dogs. For me, and countless other people around the world, these pets are like my children. I think of them as such, and I treat them as such, too. In fact, anyone who knows me, knows that I am crazy about animals, and am a staunch animal lover—both domestic as well as wildlife.

It has been said that pets take after their owners. And I must say that in thinking back about the past pets I’ve had, and comparing myself to those that I currently have, I find that I do have a lot of similarities with them—in personal characteristics; facing new things; needing encouragement and support; and in needing love and nurturing. Of course, everything that I’ve identified here are things that all humans need.

    Precious little angels

    God sends our way

    With four paws and whiskers

    To brighten our days

    With wagging tails

    And eyes full of love

They give to us so much

    As God does from above

    They guard and protect us

    Give comfort and stand true

Such faithful, loyal friends as they

Are scarce, and oh, so few

    Their barks make us laugh

    Their meows bring a smile

They leave paw prints on our hearts

No matter their breed or style

Their capacity to give unconditional love

Is most admirable—Isn’t it a pity?

    Why can’t human beings be

More like these dogs and kitties?

’Tis all mankind, who from them, can learn

A thousand lessons, to be sure

For these small packages by our side

Are God’s little angels in fur!

    A Rottweiler Rhyme

This is how I came to own a sweet little Rottweiler-mix dog…

    Just a little ol’ Rottweiler

    Short and stout

    A sixty-five pounder

    In weight, there, just about

    She used to be lonely

    Unloved and alone

    How she longed for attention

And a place to call her own

She used to roam the neighborhood

    Even slept in the streets

And on many a neighbor’s front porch

    A vigil she did keep

In the little white lawn chair

    At my own front door

She would often climb up and settle

    To sleep and sometimes snore

In the middle of the road

    She would sometimes stand

Hoping as cars slowly inched past her

    For a gentle loving hand

    A beautiful Rottweiler-mix was she

    The neighbors all agreed

But, I already have a dog

Or some other reason, they would plea

    As an
