Poems of Faith, Family, and Love
()
About this ebook
In this, my first published book, I have taken some eighty-six poems from more than three hundred I have written over nearly fifty years. Some express a simple faith in God the Father, some give praises to Jesus, some focus on biblical events and people, and some are what I call the opposite of the parables of Jesus. Instead of comparing an earthly situation with a heavenly situation, as Jesus did, I contrast the two. Some good examples are Scars, God Will Never Leave Us, and You Can Count on Me.
Finally, I have included poems about family relationships, including mothers, fathers, and daughters. If you are a Christian, I hope this book will bless you; if you dont know Jesus as your Savior, it is my prayer that God will use this book to show you one simple truth that Jesus loves you.

Poems of Faith, Family, and Love - Ernest David Quinn
What Is Faith?
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
And the evidence of things not seen."
But how many times do we stop and think,
Just what does that really mean?
We think of substance as something we can touch,
Like the grass or the wood of a tree,
But many things have substance and can’t be touched,
Like the air that we breathe, you see.
Many things that we hope for are intangible,
We can’t see them until they appear,
But we know by faith that God will supply,
The things that we hold so dear.
Jesus said if we ask we shall receive,
If we seek then we shall find,
And the evidence will be found in faith,
When we put our worries behind.
God help me to live by this promise so dear,
And to seek Thy will first of all,
Then I’ll know by faith that you’re always near,
When upon Thy name I call.
God Is The Answer
God is the answer through toil and strife,
God is the answer to problems in life,
God is the way o’er the world to prevail,
God is the answer, all others will fail.
God is the hope of the hopeless, my friend,
God never fails, He’ll abide to the end.
God is the One that will see you through,
If you seek His will in all that you do.
God is the comfort of all in despair,
God is a friend who will always be there.
Through the valley of death God will take your hand,
In your weakest moments He’ll understand.
Seek God when your heart is ready to break,
He knows what to do, He never makes a mistake.
Trust God if you would over the world prevail,
God is the answer, all others will fail.
I’ll Stand Up Tall For Jesus
God called me as a laborer in the vineyard of the Lord,
My duties and instructions are outlined in His Word.
I’m here to help my neighbor and witness to the lost,
So I’ll stand up tall for Jesus, no matter what the cost.
The way is clear before me, Love Jesus and Do Right,
And keep on keeping on for God from morning until night.
God has no need for cowards, for laziness and vice,
So I’ll stand up tall for Jesus, no matter what the price.
Though all the world despise me, His work I’ll ever do,
I’ll hold to the hand of Jesus, and I know He’ll see me through.
Though the valley be dark and lonely, God’s Spirit leads the way,
So I’ll stand up tall for Jesus, no matter what people may say.
His Hands
His hands reached out to his Mother,
As she watched Him in wonder and awe,
The hands that would one day be callused,
By the touch of a hammer and saw.
The hands that would hold small children,
Heal the sick and the blind and the lame,
And drive out the money changers,
When into God’s temple He came.
The hands that would touch a madman,
And drive out the devils within,
Were the hands that were nailed to an old rugged cross,
To pardon and free me from sin.
Someday I shall stand before Him,
And I’ll hear Him say, Heaven is thine.
And I’ll walk with my hand in the nail-scarred hand,
Of my Saviour, Jesus Divine.
It Was God
It was God that was born that morning,
It was God wrapped in swaddling clothes,
It was God, with a red face and a hungry cry,
It was God with a runny nose.
It was God who came down from heaven,
Where the streets all made of pure gold,
It was God whom the cherabims all adored,
It was God in a stable so cold.
It was God being held by a virgin,
In her soft arms so gentle and warm.
It was God being fed at His Mother’s breast,
It was God, there in human form.
It was God who looked up at the shepherds,
As they fell down to worship the King,
It was God whom the wise men would visit,
And their gold and their spices would bring.
It was God who had walked with Adam
And by Abraham had been known,
It was God born in Calvary’s shadow,
