I was inspired by the Holy Ghost to write this book after a mighty deliverance and aversion of a fire disaster in my home on December 24, 2003, by the power of Almighty God. This book is a personal testimony of the great things that God has done for me and the manifestation of His love and power in my life. The purpose is to honor God and to encourage people going through tough times to trust God and move on, for better days lie ahead. Are you going through challenges, or do life’s stresses seem more than you can bear? The good news is that you can weather life’s storms, “ride the waves,” and “walk on the water” of the storms in your life by the special grace and power of Almighty God. This message of hope, faith, and victory will inspire, lift you up, and bless your life. You can experience great joy and peace in spite of your challenges for, hallelujah, Almighty God reigns supreme! This book has given me the privilege to honor my exceptional son, Johnny O. Dogun, who graduated from the University of Pittsburgh on April 29, 2012, and my parents and older brother, who have passed away. I am a medical doctor and I specialize in pediatrics. I live in Erie, Pennsylvania. I am actively involved in the community and various church ministries. I helped plant a church in Erie which started as a home fellowship in my house on November 14, 2009. The church is growing, and the Lord is doing great and marvelous things in our midst.

This book is dedicated to my exceptionally wonderful and loving son – Johnny Ogheneruona Okiemute Dogun

I am truly blessed to have you with all your laughter, love, and special moments we share so abundantly.

You make me very proud, happy, and joyful in so many ways. I love you and appreciate you more than words can ever express.

You are a special miracle of Almighty God’s wonderful creation. It is my prayer that you continue to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

Johnny, May the Lord bless and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Num. 6:24-26).

In loving memory, I also dedicate this book to my mom, Mrs. Grace Igberi Mowoe-Mariere, who passed away on June 29, 1989, and to my dad, Chief (Dr.) Samuel Jereton Mariere, who passed away on May 9, 1971

Among his many achievements, my dad was the first civilian governor of the former midwestern region of Nigeria, West Africa, first president of the Christian Council of Nigeria, first chancellor of the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and until his death he was the chairman of Bendel State School Board.

My parents were very industrious. Their lives were characterized by love, compassion, generosity, courage, and selfless service to members of our family and the community at large.

Thank you Mom and Dad for instilling a strong foundation of faith, love, compassion, and generosity in me and for all the encouragement and support given to me. The exemplary lives you lived, and the lasting legacy, and godly heritage you left behind continues to be a source of inspiration for me today.

The sweet memories of your love and care linger on in my heart. I thank God always for giving me such wonderful parents. I love you dearly and I miss you, for you are simply the best mom and dad ever!

In loving memory, I also dedicate this book to my older brother Dr. D. D. Mowoe, Ph.D., S.A.N. who passed away on September 16, 2001 You are fondly remembered today and always for your love, care, compassion, generosity, dedication, remarkable achievements, and professional excellence as a lawyer. We love you and miss you. Adieu Daddy Warri.

    In Memory

A rose may lose its bloom,

but still the fragrance lingers long.

    A bird may fly away,

yet we can still recall its song.

So when someone who is loved

departs to join the Lord above,

they’ll live and laugh and be with us

    in memories of love.

    ACKNOWLEGEMENTS

    9781449764111_TXT.pdf

I give thanks to Almighty God for giving me the inspiration and privilege to declare His wonderful works and deeds through the writing of this book, and for guiding me every step of the way.

Who am I to write about God who is Almighty? I am truly humbled by this experience. Indeed He is my all-in-all. I am just a vessel in His hands. This book is certainly the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in my eyes. I give Him all the glory, honor, and adoration for great is our God and greatly to be praised forever and ever Amen.

My thanks also goes to my loving and wonderful son, Johnny Ogheneruona Okiemute Dogun. I appreciate your prayers, support, love, and understanding always. Thank you for putting up with my sticky notes.

My gratitude goes to Paula Frey, Patience Simmons, Professor Ruth Pflueger, Phil Ughanze, Cynthia and Bosangs Dunn for all the help they rendered.

I am also grateful to all my family members and friends; your prayers, love, and support mean a lot to me.

Thank you and God bless you.

A TRIBUTE TO CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD

    9781449764111_TXT.pdf

Children are a heritage from the Lord. They are our future. The greatest influence in the lives of children is their parent(s) or caregiver, for children learn what they live. It therefore behooves us to live exemplary lives before them, for we shape tomorrow’s world by what we teach our children today. A healthy and strong youth today is a healthy and strong future tomorrow. I received a copy of the poem Children Learn What They Live at the Roseville Baptist Church, Roseville, North Carolina during my son’s dedication ceremony. The words mean a lot to me.

    Children Learn What They Live

    9781449764111_TXT.pdf

If a child lives with CRITICISM, he learns to CONDEMN.

If a child lives with HOSTILITY, he learns to FIGHT.

If a child lives with RIDICULE, he learns to BE SHY.

If a child lives with SHAME, he learns to feel GUILTY

If a child lives with TOLERANCE, he learns to be PATIENT.

If a child lives with ENCOURAGMENT,

    he learns to be CONFIDENT.

If a child lives with PRAISE, he learns to APPRECIATE.

If a child lives with FAIRNESS, he learns JUSTICE.

If a child lives with SECURITY, he learns to have FAITH.

If a child lives with APPROVAL, he learns to LIKE HIMSELF

If a child lives with ACCEPTANCE and FRIENDSHIP, he learns to find LOVE in the world.

Even as I pay this tribute to my son Johnny and children all over the world, Johnny I want you to know that you are very special and you are number one.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

    INTRODUCTION

This book is a living testimony of God’s mighty power, grace, and presence in my life, in good times and in challenging times. It is my say so book of the great things He has done for me and a declaration of His marvelous and wondrous works. Like the Psalmist, I can say Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits (Ps. 103: 1-2).

This world is filled with trials, tribulations, and troubles. People experience a lot of pain and suffering—just listen to the news or read the daily newspaper and you will know what I am talking about. The sudden, massive, catastrophic tsunami disaster that occurred in South Asia on December 26, 2004 still lingers in our memories. Some people are struggling
