I find myself looking back, a little more these days and some things have changed a lot in the last four years. Becka survived her ordeal at the creek with Tommy Decker, her ankles both healed and she walks without a limp. We’re still best friends; if anything I think we’re closer now, almost inseparable in the last couple years. She helped me to get to the crystal temples and meet my guide Shi the first time: we’ve been doing a lot of meditations together since then and we are constantly reading whatever books we can borrow from her mom and Gram, or checking out at the local library.

We’re still like sponges trying to suck up all the metaphysical knowledge we can find. In fact, I’ve fallen in love with the word metaphysical; it just rolls off your tongue and I love that it covers all things beyond the human senses. It’s like an umbrella covering so many areas of what exists beyond our little world and into the unknown.

We’ve also been working together on building our healing energies, trying to work with prayer and healing, to help Mrs. Boymer battle her cancer. She had her treatment and was in remission for two years before the cancer came back. She’s gone back in treatment and her cancer is a challenge we are still working on. The cancer has been like a disease eating away at Amy’s life too. Truth be told, it has infected her whole family and been creeping into our neighborhood, eating away at everyone’s joy.

Amy and Ronnie have had a wild crazy, major crush on each other since early spring this year: heck we’ve all started to notice boys and think about them in different ways this year. Although most of the other kids around us, still consider us kind of nerdy, not because we are so into our subjects at school but because of our interest in anything psychic; sometimes I think because of it our bond of friendship in our neighborhood Karma Klub, has grown even stronger. We’re not just a club or group of friends: we’re a true family now.

For my last birthday, my parents gave me a laptop and Nana gave me a digital camera. Now I’m a giant photo nut. I love taking pictures of everything and everybody. The six of us in the Karma Klub and all our families are subjects I never get enough pictures of. Luckily they all put up with me and have gotten use to me putting a camera in their faces all the time.

All the same kids are still in the neighborhood, that hasn’t changed. When Cookie got back from the family wedding, the week that Becka got hurt and was missing, she could hardly believe our tale when we told her everything that happened. Now most of the time she is busy helping take care of her younger sister Charlotte and doesn’t get over as much as she use to.

Amy’s with us as often as she can be but with her mom’s cancer it isn’t as much time as she used to spend with us either. (She glows when she’s with us and Ronnie’s there too.) I think because of her mom’s cancer, her time around Ronnie is her only chance to think about herself and try to feel any real joy or happiness, even if only for a few minutes at a time.

Ronnie still lives down the street; him and Dinger come to the klub house as often as they can, but his mom keeps him busier with each passing summer. Sometimes he talks about hating to be at home and he’s starting to have issues with his parents, and how much he thinks they try to control his life. Ronnie looks more like he’s 18 now instead of just 15; he’s grown more handsome and sexy in the last year than any of us would have thought possible. It’s easy to see why Amy’s so twitter-pated. (That’s a term my dad borrowed from the movie Bambi, when he’s talking about someone being in love.)

Bunny’s the only person who gets to spend most of her time with us and no matter what we’re doing she’s in the thick of it with us. We meditate together a lot. She still loves discussing all the books we’re reading. She loves to debate the subjects and cover them from every angle: that’s one thing I don’t think will ever change with her. She reads more books than any of us and I think we read a lot.

Gram put Mr. Mac on a diet a couple years ago, now it no longer takes two of us to hug him. He looks a little different but he’s just as happy and humorous as ever. When she first put him on the diet he joked a lot about the diet and it’s affect on him. I think the rest of us enjoyed his dieting days a lot more than he did, I’m sure all of us laughed a lot more than he did. He has always taken a lot of joy in making us all roll on the floor laughing from his humor.

Today was just another great day in the neighborhood, a sunny afternoon at the Baker’s house. We had been outside all morning working in the organic garden: now it was lunchtime and we were all in the kitchen, making our scrumptious tomato sandwiches. Everyone who had ever eaten one of our sandwiches always bragged about how great they were. They were the greatest because we grew the best tasting, biggest beefsteak tomatoes in the county. We sliced the tomatoes about a half an inch thick, always used Miracle Whip generously applied to both slices of lightly toasted rye bread. Next we threw on a little salt and pepper then added a little lettuce to finish it off. Mr. Mac and Gram liked theirs with nice crispy maple bacon. They called theirs BLT Baker style. Our sandwiches just seemed to get better every year and I was sure it was all the sun and love the plants got from Mother Nature and us. Plus there is nothing beats the taste of one of our tomatoes, ripe and warm from the vine.

While we were making the sandwiches, it was Bunny who started the new discussion, we were all having. She said,

When I read ‘The Secret’ I thought it was so amazing the simple truths they were sharing. I can’t believe that more people don’t talk about these laws more often. There was such a big deal about it when the book came out but then it all died down and there’s nothing again. Even Oprah did a show on it and one of the major networks played the movie during primetime but it seems like she’s the only one who usually talks to all these writers. Why don’t they do more shows to help educate the public about metaphysical subjects?

Mrs. Baker jumped in to answer her,

Lots of people have been saying these things for a long time Bunny. A lot of the people just get too busy with their lives to think about all the most important things. Remember that it’s the simple basic things in life that usually mean the most and are the simple rules or laws to live by.’ The Law of Attraction’ has been explained by other people many times. They might not have called it by the same name but they were explaining the same simple law. Some people have written books about positive thinking and positive imaging for example. See good things and good things come your way. Be around positive people and positive things and positive people will be around you. Like attracts like. Good positive energy is attracted to other good positive energy. Sometimes people write things with different words, or call it by another name but they’re all just saying the same main thing. Some people hear things the way one person explains it and then understand, others hear and understand a different way. Maybe that’s why so many people write and try to explain the same things but call them by different names. They don’t all get to be on Oprah, so you don’t hear about them. You should try watching PBS the Public Broadcast channel has a lot of great shows. Wayne Dyer is always on there giving his talks and lectures. Over the years his writing and books have really changed. I feel like we’ve watched him become more aware of the metaphysical with each new book he writes.

Then Gram jumped in,

Some people aren’t ready to hear things when they’re said or heard for the first time. Sometimes you could scream the words until you were blue in the face but if they aren’t ready to hear and understand it, they just don’t get it. If you write a book and one person reads it before they’re ready to hear or understand you might ask why did they read it? Sometimes it has to be the right time to hear or understand or even care. For a lot of people, they read it but it’s years later that the light comes on for them about what it means or how it works. Sometimes you can see or hear things for years, hundreds of times you hear it but for where you were in your life, you either weren’t ready for the information or you just didn’t understand it yet. Later you read it or hear it again and the light comes on. Timing is everything. We’re all different. What works for me might not work for you and vise versa.

I asked,

Why don’t more people talk about these things on the television or in the news papers? Even magazines don’t ever have much to write about psychic things or universal laws. That is unless they’re just trying to make fun of them or get a splashy headline. Aren’t lots of people interested, don’t they want to know more like us? Someone like Oprah should be shouting from the rooftops about all of us being spiritual beings in a physical body and try to get everyone to remember who they really are. There’s so much more, to each of us and we need to get back to being the spiritual souls we really are. She has so many things on her shows about being the best person you can be but she really needs to understand that we need to start with everyone when they are young, not to wait until they’re all grown up and have forgotten the gifts of the spirit. We need to wake up the world and get them to teach their children to use their psychic abilities and to practice using their talents from birth. People would listen if she told them. They would believe her. At least a lot of them would I’m sure.

We finished making the sandwiches and passed the plates around until we all had one. Everybody sat at the table and the talk continued. Mr. Mac always listened and occasionally made a comment or two.

What you girls need to think about is this, life is like a giant jig saw puzzle. All the things that you’re so interested in are just some of the puzzle pieces. There’s the astrology piece, the numerology piece, the healing one, the meditation one, etc. Some pieces have to do with religion and God, some have to do with science and things that have almost nothing to do with the psychic, some have to do with the mind and health. Every subject out there is probably another piece of the big puzzle. For some people who practice a religion, all the psychic things you love and study, they would consider the work of the devil. Some people who are very metaphysical can’t agree about God’s existence. Man is not an easy creature to understand. So when you think about all the new things you’re learning just remember to keep an open mind about everything. Some people are so busy thinking what they believe in is the real and only truth, they never get to see the whole picture. There is little that anyone can dream or imagine that may not have happened or been before, or might be in the future. You can never know what will come through the mind of man from the universal source, so never be closed or narrow-minded. Make sure you get all the pieces so you can see the whole picture!

Gram spoke up again,

If you read the Bible, you’ll see that Jesus said many of the things you think are new and he said them a very, very long time ago. I think if you read more about him, you’d see that he studied and was able to do many of the things you consider metaphysical. He healed, he produced food from thin air to feed the masses and he rose from the grave. The halos you see in so many religious works of art are the auras of the people in the picture. They were so pure and clear in their thinking that all the people could see their auras and drew them as halos. Do you think that Jesus might have done something like astral projection? He meditated, he prayed, he probably levitated and he told everyone to follow the laws of God. God’s laws are very simple laws that make as much sense today, as they did when he handed them down. Most masters from all the religions have good rules or laws to live by. They’re always pretty basic and simple laws.

Amen to that old woman. Mr. Mac added.

You know, that’s what I found so interesting about my first meeting with my guide Shi. He gave me a short set of rules to try to live my life by. It wasn’t exactly the Ten Commandments but I thought they were good ones. It was the first instruction that he ever gave me. I never thought about them in connection to the laws of the universe but I love that he gave them to me. I do think about them a lot and they do make me think more about what I’m doing and how I’m doing it.

I don’t think I every heard this before Kat, Mr. Mac asked, What if you don’t mind sharing, did he tell you?

I smiled when I looked back towards him,

" I thought I told everybody, it was all I think I talked about for months after it happened. I can’t believe I didn’t already tell you this a dozen times but I don’t mind sharing with you too. He just gave me the list.

1. Mediate and go within,

2. Simplify your life and what you think you need,

3. Dream,

4. Believe in yourself

5. Love everything and everyone

6. Share and always give something back and,

7. Be the best person you can be," I told him.

Well, that sounds like a pretty good list too. Maybe a little more modern and younger version of the commandments, he said.

" When Shi and I actually sat in the temple for the first time, I was so in awe with the beauty of the building itself. It was such a silvery, amethyst color and it sparkled like a thousand lights were shinning on it. I just remember looking all around trying to memorize every detail of it.

The bench we sat on was a low simple design. As we sat there Shi said I should always try to eat well, think well, and speak well. He said if I did that first and foremost I would live to be an old, healthy woman with many friends and an active mind capable of many things. Then he added I should always dream, believe and have vision for myself. He also said if I gave love and shared with others, the same things would come back to me ten fold. He ask me to always meditate, to try to simplify my life and if I did good deeds and gave back that I would be all that I was meant to be.

The other thing I found really interesting was that he told me he chose to introduce himself to me in my dreams. He said he wanted me to feel comfortable with him, on a level where I could relate to him at my age and not be afraid of what was happening, when we met again in the astral plane. He said we met often but I hadn’t reached the level of remembering until then. He told me it was a tricky thing to be able to enter different dimensions or astral planes and have your mind, be in both or either without having forgetfulness or clouding your memory of it. He said it was a vibration thing that I had to learn to control.

He was one of the merkids in my dream about Atlantis. Do you remember me talking about the wild crazy dream, I had a few years ago about the merkids and Atlantis?" I asked him.

He smiled and answered me,

Now I do believe I remember hearing something about this story.

I recognized his smile. It was the one that said yeah, heard this story more than once. I just smiled back at him and continued,

Never in a million years would I have thought that dream could have been my guide trying to make a connection. That really blew my mind. Finding my higher mind or getting out into the astral realms, what ever it was or where ever it was, it was like being Alice in Wonderland. I felt like I was gazing into the looking glass and seeing the real world for the first time. It’s something very hard to put into words and impossible to describe. It was the most incredible adventure. I’m sure it was like a dream but not a dream. After meeting Shi, just out of curiosity, I looked up his name on the Internet. When I found it, I learned his was a very ancient name that meant Master. I don’t think my mind could have known things like that.

Well that is pretty interesting, isn’t it! Mr. Mac said with another smile. This smile was one, the kind that said he probably knew more than I realized. It was one of those the cat that swallowed the canary kind of smiles.

Then Bunny jumped back into the conversation,

Well I still think more people should be speaking out to the public about these laws or philosophies, so more people could become aware and be in tune with what we’re all here for. They just aren’t talking enough about it or explaining it to everyone. I sure more kids would want to know. If they even knew the first part they’d want to know more and learn about it all. She took a deep breath and continued.

I know even with all of you explaining and teaching it to us, there’s just so much out there to read and sort out, I think group discussions would really be helpful to listen to on television or even in movies.

It was Gram who answered her again,

You know Bunny, you’re right, they should talk more about it; I think there should even be classes in school about it. But the world doesn’t always work the way you or I might think it should. We should get out there and try to change it so it would be a better place. But for right now today, there are so many people who just don’t care, or they are so busy trying to live their lives and make a living. Sometimes they don’t think they have time to learn or even care about what they don’t know. Part of that might be their karma and the lessons they need to learn this time around. Or maybe it’s just not their time to hear the words and it’ll come later to them. Remember, we’re all at different levels of learning and understanding. Learning the metaphysical is like going to school and all people are in different grades trying to learn what they can understand. It takes time to work your way up to graduation time. Some people are just dropouts and don’t care one way or the other about their soul or spirit. But you could make a difference, all of us could. We should try to think about how each of us could make a difference and then go out and do it. You know, one of the reasons we’ve tried to teach the six of you so much? It’s so you in turn could teach and inform others and so the pyramid would grow. Sometimes, all you have to do is inspire one or two other people and then they can inspire another one or two more. If we’re lucky, maybe each person here will inspire dozens and those dozen might go on to inspire even dozens more. Think about how that might be the way you could help to get the word out there.

Bunny finished eating her sandwich and told us,

I think I might start writing a newsletter and hand it out at school when it starts up again this fall. Maybe I’ll even e-mail it to the rest of my family and friends too. Or maybe I’ll even start a Face book page.

Mr. Mac spoke up.

That sounds like a grand idea Bunny what do you think you’ll write about for the first one?

She looked a little thoughtful for a couple seconds and told him,

I think I’ll have at least three to five subjects to start up with. Maybe just start with some strong basic ideas for each and if one doesn’t interest them, maybe one or two of the others will. I can put the whole thing together on my laptop and print off the copies. Maybe if enough people are interested I could get copies run off at the office place so I can get the costs down.

Mrs. Baker started to pick up the dishes from the table.

Here, I’ll help you Mom. Becka got up and took the plates from her mom to load into the dishwasher.

Thanks again for lunch. Bunny said, I think I might head home and get my newsletter outline started. Maybe I’ll bring a copy over tomorrow and you all can help me edit my ideas. Would you mind if I did that? she asked.

We all answered her in the affirmative and she headed out the door with a real mission. We finished cleaning up the kitchen and wiping down the table after Bunny was gone.

Mr. Mac asked,

Before you go Kat, there’s something we wanted to talk to you about. Have you got a couple minutes?

The five of us sat back down at the table. Gram started the conversation,

"We talked with your folks last week and asked them if they would consider letting you make a trip with us next week. They said if you wanted to you’d have their permission. So we thought we’d ask if you’d like to join us on a ten-day trip to Florida.

Now before you answer, we want you to think about it over night. We’ll be driving and it’ll be a lot of time in the car. We thought you and Becka could keep each other company and it might be a lot of fun for both of you. It would just be the four of us if you go. Mr. Baker has to work and Kay’s going to stay to take care of him and the garden while we’re gone.

We plan to go to a place called the Coral Castle in Homestead and then back up to my sister Miney’s, who lives in a little town called Cassadaga. Cassadaga isn’t too far from the ocean so we may go to the beach a couple times as well. Most of the time we plan to visit in Cassadaga. It’s just a little town out in the middle of nowhere but I think you and Becka will find it better then a trip to Disney World. It’s a town of Psychics and Mediums. There’s a spiritual camp and Church there as well as a book store," she finished.

Well that was a surprise that came out of nowhere for me. I didn’t have to wait until tomorrow to tell them what I wanted to do. Stay here while Becka was gone for ten days or go with them and see a whole town of Psychics and Mediums? Hands down, the trip was getting my vote.

I can tell you right now Gram, if my parents are willing to let me go, I want to go. I don’t have to think on it or anything, I’d love to go and I promise to be on my best behavior the whole time. I promised them.

Mr. Mac spoke up again,

Well Kat you’re always pretty good but we want to be sure you realize it’ll take a long hard days worth of driving or maybe even two days to get there and it’ll be the same getting back. We’ll want to leave before the sun comes up and it’ll probably be at least a full day of driving to get there, or two like I said if we don’t push it so much. Then even after we get there, there’ll be the drive to Homestead and back, to see the Coral Castle. That’s something Grams always wanted to see ever since she read about it years ago.

I tried to reassure him,

Don’t worry Mr. Mac, I don’t take up much room and I can pack light. Becka and me know how to keep quiet and entertain ourselves. I could bring a little bag of puzzles and maybe a deck of cards to play with for when we’re bored. How much money would I need to have? I’ll have to ask my parents for the money. I only have a little left in my savings right now I told them.

Gram told me,

You don’t have to worry about money. Your parents and I have already discussed it and they said they would give me some money for your food and maybe a few dollars extra for you to have as mad money to spend on what you want. Who knows maybe you’ll want a souvenir t-shirt from Florida. She teased.

I couldn’t help but ask,

Is your sister Miney a psychic?

Gram answered me,

No, she isn’t. She owns the hotel in town but she does know them all. In fact we’ll be staying at her hotel and she’s giving us the rooms at no charge. You and Becka will have a room next to the two of us. It’ll be a chance for you to see a lot of Florida as well as get the opportunity to meet a lot of very special people. Who knows, maybe you could get a reading or two from some of them. No promises on that but it’s a strong possibility. Miney has known them all for years and the hotel is kind of a gathering place in Cassadaga.

I jumped up and walked over to give Mr. Mac and Gram a hug and told them, Thank you so much for letting me go with you, I promise I’ll be as quiet as a mouse, you won’t even know I’m there. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

They both laughed and said,

You’re welcome Kat.

What’s the Coral Castle thing you mentioned? I just had to ask, the name brought up all kinds of pictures, in my mind. I wondered what kind of coral it might be and what it would look like.

" Well from the stories I’ve read over the years, it’s a place that one man built all by himself, with giant blocks of coral that he cut and transported from the coast line, to a spot where he built his castle. He built it for the love of his life but that love story didn’t
