Once upon a time there was a very poor man who had one daughter and they lived in a cold and dark cave. His daughter was very smart. She went begging everywhere, bringing home a lot of goods. She even taught her own father how to speak cleverly in order to get more when begging. One day the father dared to go and ask the Czar for some donation. The Czar was impressed how bold and well spoken he was. He asked the poor man where he came from and who taught him to speak so cleverly.
Most esteemed Czar, I am honored to have a very intelligent daughter,
he said.
Well, but who did your daughter learn it from?
asked the Czar.
The poor man replied:
Our wretched life and the God taught her to be smart!
The Czar decided to test the wits of the old man and his daughter. He gave him thirty eggs and mockingly said:
Take these eggs to your daughter and ask her to hatch chickens from them. If she does, I’ll reward her handsomely, but if she does not, I’ll banish you both from my kingdom.
The poor man went back to his cave crying and told his daughter what the Czar wanted her to do. The daughter touched the
