Seducing my Professor - RM Thomas

    Seducing my Professor

    By R.M. Thomas

    Stacie Armitage hated eight-o’clock classes.

Still sleepy, blonde hair yanked into a tight scrunchie, she trudged along the footpath toward McGinnis Hall and Old English Literature 225. She passed a couple of chatty girls on the way, but most of the students up this early had that numb look that begged for a few more hours of sleep. She passed someone she remembered from last semester and smiled. The other girl smiled back.

The sun was burning through the haze. By eleven, the humidity would make the air soupy and thick. That was South Carolina for you, she thought to herself.

She arrived at her building and climbed the steps to the second floor. The classroom was occupied by a couple of girls sitting in back, deep into their phones. A pretty African-American girl sat in front reading a paperback. The instructor was not there yet.

Stacie sat by the window and looked out. August was ending on campus, and September beckoned with her cooler winds and turning leaves. It was the first day of sophomore year.

More students entered and found seats, kids with facial hair and tye-dyes and battered backpacks; a few students with glasses and baseball caps and sorority letters; everyone clutching a cell phone. Millennials just like me, Stacie thought. The Harry Potter kids.

A tall, thin black man entered the class, dressed in a pair of gray slacks and a crisp Oxford. A blue-gray tie popped against the shirt. The man was wearing thick glasses and was completely bald. And young, Stacie thought. And freaking beautiful.

Please turn off your phones, said the man in a rich bass.
