About this ebook

The book refers to ethical management and to internal competition which happens to profit and non-profit organizations.
Today's society is highly competitive and exhibits a high rate of aggressiveness, particularly when it comes to professional matters. In the midst of sales pressure and external competition, this kind of hostile conduct threatens to disrupt delicate balances within companies and organizations. Proper and ethical management can be a remedy to the loss of stability in organizations. Effective management contributes to the resolution of ambiguous matters, proper decision-making and the restoration of a healthy professional environment in the workplace. In such cases, powerful and effective leadership plays a major role in the operations of management, entailing significant and often harsh decisions.
One should keep in mind though, that such references on the book constitute the aftermath of improper management or ineffective leadership which fails to cope with rivalries and conflicts that stem from personal interest, pursuit of glory, recognition and power. War or dispute between colleagues derive from hostility or fear due to a particular deed. The last one also serves as a starting point for all the instances mentioned in the book.

It should be clarified to the reader, that the below writings been obtained by a thorough investigation within organizations the author worked and does not constitute views that embrace.

Clearly the author is in favour of ‘moral’ management and the results that produces.

    A big Thank you

The moment I engaged in writing this book I began wondering when it would finally reach an end and how many people would eventually fill in the questionnaires constructed for this purpose. Questions that might be offensive or seek for answers regarding the culture of an organisation and, more specifically, patterns of conduct occurring within any given organisation are typically avoided.

Hence, apart from those who were genuinely interested in the subject, response to my questions was limited. As a whole, twenty-seven questionnaires were answered and only a few people consented to the report of their names at the beginning of the book.

The argument examined is as delicate as the unwritten law of war. Incidents mentioned throughout the pages of this book are commonly observed in many companies but hardly ever discussed in public. Therefore, at first I wondered if all these are just my personal ponderings, hardly reflecting reality. Unfortunately, existing bibliography and answers given to my questionnaires demonstrate that this is indeed the case. In effect, this kind of reality is often necessary in order to keep the stability in certain business environments, either private or public.

I should begin my acknowledgements by thanking all the people who agreed to answer my questionnaires, even anonymously. All the same, I would like to thank Mr. Isaak Kesisoglou, Associate Professor of Surgery in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), for his enthusiasm and his encouragement in this writing attempt, as well as for being an assessor and supporter. Moreover, I deeply appreciate the help of my colleague Dr. Christos Pavlidis and his thorough editing of my texts when both of us were dealing with stressful working conditions. Had it not been for his help, this book would not have been published in such short time. I would also like to thank Mr. Christos G. Savvopoulos, doctor, Assistant Professor of Pathology in AUTH, 1st Medical Propedeutic Department, AHEPA Hospital, Thessaloniki, for his quick response. Furthermore, Mr. Christos Siomos, Financial Manager and Associate General Manager of the Pharmacists’ Association in the city of Kozani, for his enthusiasm and appreciation. Likewise, Mr. Ioannis Petridis, Personnel Manager in AB Vassilopoulos Super Markets Company for completing my questionnaire and encouraging me in any enterprise I have undertaken so far.

Finally, I would like to thank my wife Sofia who still believes in me after the few years we have spent together and gives me strength to go on. The least I can say to her is a really big Thank You!

    Introductory Note

just to change the world for the better.

This book addresses a wide range of audience. It is dedicated to students of Management and Finance, as well as to students who have spent years mastering a field of knowledge and yet they now practice something irrelevant to their former studies. Likewise, to employees who might have underwent same experiences as those examined in the book, to overly expensive executives of companies and
