Storm Rose

Hi my name is Storm Rose, I am full of motivation, determination and encouragement. I am an activist for self-change. I believe that infinity and beyond is the limit to what you can accomplish.  I was born in a disparaged crime ridding suburb called Harvey Illinois. I soon escaped the deep entrapments of that small city. I refused to become a product of my community, so I became a product for the community that I was born in. My dreams formed and my passions grew stronger as I got older. I have a BA in Criminal Justice and working toward my Master in Organizational Leadership. I am enlisted in the Air National Guard. I have served in Afghanistan, where I supported the mission. To God be the glory

    Introduction

This story is about a mother named Amy, who had her first child at the age of eighteen. She dealt with an abusive husband who hurt her older daughter. Despite the terrible things that developed in her and her young children’s lives, she divorced the evil, malicious man who caused so much agony that years could never erase it, and she’s determined to hold together her family. Amy worked hard to take care of her children and wanted each one of them afforded the same opportunities as other children. She wanted them to be successful, go to college, and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Each one of her children chose the life that he or she wanted to live, but Amy tried her best to keep them together as a family, especially when death seemed near. In this book, they will face hardship, sorrows, pain, happiness, grief, and love, but they will continue to push through the obstacles of life.

    Chapter One

    Agonizing Pain

It was a sunny Saturday morning as the birds chirped at the window of Samantha’s bedroom, awaking her from sleeping. She stretched as she sat up and put on her slippers, dashing into the bathroom to get showered and dressed. She went down stairs to open the front door to retrieve the mail. Looking through the mail Samantha noticed that it was Tasha’s college applications and a letter from Spelman University. She smiled as she went in to get breakfast started. After a little while, Samantha walked upstairs to Tasha’s room to give her the good news.

Samantha entered the room without knocking and announced, Tasha, get out of the bed; you’re always sleeping. Her older sister, Tasha, got angry quickly. She had wounds that could penetrate through any crowd because of her past agonizing child hood.

Tasha immediately got upset and shouted back, Samantha, do not talk to me like that. I’m tired. Samantha, trying to sympathize, replied, But you’re always tired or sick. I’m just worried for you. She sighed, changing her tone and voice, and continued by saying, Here are your college applications, and a letter from Spelman University that I filled out for you. Tasha sat down and said, Thanks, boastful, but I never asked you to fill it out. Look, I need to lay down a little longer, okay?

Samantha began to exit the room but stopped a moment to add sarcastically, "Um, you’re welcome—that’s what sisters do. I’m fixing something to eat, so look over those applications and fill them out. Girl, we can’t be wasting time. You know how Momma feels about that. She wants the best for us."

Samantha, please spare me, Tasha said, while rolling her eyes. Momma is never here. She doesn’t even know what goes on in our lives anymore.

Samantha, stunned at Tasha’s comment, yelled, Tasha, you know she works hard to take care of us. Stop with all your bitterness! If it weren’t for Momma, we wouldn’t have a place to stay or all the things we have. You need to feel blessed to have her.

Giving in, Tasha said, Okay, whatever. Just give me a couple of minutes. As she left the room, Samantha heard the front door opening and her mom’s voice.

Their mother, Amy, entered the house, sat down on the couch, and began to pray as she started to take off her shoes. Amy said, Lord God, I’m so tired; I have to work these long nights. When will I ever get my breakthrough? My life has been a constant fight. I’m alone, and my daughters have to go to college. My son—oh Lord, it hurts to think of what he could be doing in those streets! Lord help us.

Samantha walked downstairs and asked in a concerned voice, Are you okay, Momma?

Amy replied, Yes baby, I’m fine. Amy never wanted the children to worry about anything, so she stayed positive in front of them. Samantha sat down next to Amy and asked, How was work, Momma? Amy said, It was great, baby. You know—the regular work routine. Glad to be able to come home, pay the bills, and take care of my children.

Samantha smiled. I know, Momma. That’s why I’m making you and Tasha some breakfast. Amy returned the smile. Looking around, she said, Where is Tasha?

You know, Momma, she’s still in bed, Samantha said with a smug attitude.

At that very moment, Tasha could be heard from upstairs yelling, No I’m not; I’m in the bathroom. Samantha went into the kitchen to finish breakfast, as Tasha ran downstairs into the living room. She said to Amy, Hi Momma; how was work?

Good. I’m just very tired, Amy replied, rubbing her temples.

Well, do you need anything? I can massage your feet if you like, Tasha humbly asked. Amy, reluctant to accept, said, No, I’m okay, Tasha.

Samantha shouted from the kitchen, Breakfast is ready! Momma said to Tasha, Come on, let’s go eat breakfast, baby. Momma and Tasha took their seats across from each other at the table, and Samantha brought them their plates of food. Samantha grabbed her plate and joined them at the table. She boasted about
