Down, But Not Out

About this ebook
So many people are going through tough times. Some people are responsible for their own troubles – they cheated on their partner; it was their drinking or drugs that did the damage; it was their anger that caused them to lash out; it was their excess that got them in debt; it was their lack of control that got them pregnant. Others have done nothing to deserve what they are going through – you're the one who was cheated on, the one who has to care for the loved one who is ill, the one who is left with the bills and the one who has to live with the shame. Whatever the cause, now you're trapped and defeat is staring you right in the face. No matter what you've tried or the goals and ambitions you once had, it's all failed. It's just been too much and you might be on the verge of giving up. I want you to know that God hasn't forgotten about you. No matter how far you've fallen or how big your problem, God loves you and hasn't given up on you. Your situation might be too big for you, but it's not bigger than your God

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
There is nothing new under the sun
(Ecclesiastes 1:9)
Everything in this book is derived from things I’ve read or heard over the years from many wonderful men and women of God. The reason I haven’t mentioned each of them by name is because they are far too numerous and spread out over the course of my life for me to remember them all. It is an omission for which I am sorry as they have added much to my life. I agree with those who would venture to say that the originators of the thoughts expressed in this book are far wiser and more eloquent than me.
Having said that, I would like to specifically acknowledge the invaluable input of the following people:
My dad, David Govender, whose influence still looms large over my life. His love for God and the English language are hinges on which my life hangs. My great aspiration is still to follow your example.
My mum, Radha Govender, for deciding to have a second child and going through the draft manuscript to meticulously edit my mistakes. I appear to be smarter than I really am because of the corrections you made.
My brother, Wesley Govender, for picking at every idea and concept in this book to the point that I prayed for mercy. It is because of this however, that I have absolute confidence to stand by what I’ve written. I can’t wait for you to ask for my input on something you’ve worked hard on.
My family at Isipingo Community Church. Yours is the dubious pleasure of persevering with a preacher like me. Your encouragement and support is greatly undeserved.
The joys of my life – my wife, Janine and my baby, Christopher. That God would bless a person like me with the two of you is proof that He loves me more than anyone else. I live to make you happy and pay the bills.
