The Triad of Wellness
"Total Wellness is a triad of
Body, Mind & Emotions
working together as a whole being."
– World Health Organization
The Triad
Wellness is just not an absence of a dis-ease but presence of physical health, right thoughts and balanced emotions. Physical health is confined to the Body, while the way we think is a reflection of the Mind and how we feel is that of the Emotions.
The Body comprises of the four key elements which are Oxygen, Water, Sleep and Food along with the fight or flight factor, Stress. The key elements help in nourishing our body and stress locks the growth, depending on the fight mode taken or the flight mode. Imbalance of the key elements and adverse affects of stress lead to certain dis-eases, which we will learn how to treat it through Spinal Acupressure.

Along with Acupressure points, the right thought process and balanced emotions help in treating the dis-eases. It helps navigating from a negative zone to a positive one, thereby directing the body towards long lasting nourishment.
Quoting Professor Marek Kowalczyk of the Militray Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology in Warsaw, Thoughts and Emotions affect all vital organs and systems of the human body: nervous, immune, hormonal, circulatory and reproductive. People who live stressful lives suffer from colds and flu twice as often as others & depressed women have half the chances of becoming pregnant.
Let us see how to go about the triad of the overall well being, with the Balancing of Body, the Mind and the Emotions.

Element 1
Oxygen
"Breathing correctly is the
key to better fitness,
muscle strength,
stamina and
athletic endurance."
Oxygen is the sole element necessary for the body’s survival. One can stay without food and water for 3 – 7 days but not without oxygen. It has the capability of combining with practically all other elements in the body in order to form the essential ingredients that are required for building and maintaining our body.
For instance: Water is made up of oxygen and hydrogen; carbohydrates are made up of oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon; proteins are made up of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, and nitrogen.

Lungs are the first pair of organs that start functioning once we are born. They never stop working all our life. Lungs are built to take in pure fresh oxygen to release carbon dioxide. The deeper we breathe, the more oxygen reaches different parts of our body.
Lungs can store upto 3000 cc of Oxygen. Our lifestyle is such that we allow only 1/5th of the full capacity of the lungs. This results in lack of Oxygen to the body and definitely some wrong breathing patterns our body is adjusted to.
"Breathe deeply rather than
running out
of your breath."
Deep Breathing is a simple and an effective way to live healthy. Stress makes our breath shallow and chronic stress makes shallow breathing a habit. Breathing in deeply will ensure every cell of the body getting rejuvenated and relaxed and deep exhalation will ensure the body gets rid of all the toxins and stale air from the lungs.
Health Problems:
The Lungs generally control the Emotions in the body. Any kind of an Emotional Stress is connected with the weakness of the Lungs Energy. The problems faced by people due to the weakness of Lungs Energy are Asthma & Skin Allergies.
Skin is Your Third Lung:
If you think you have just 2 Lungs in your body, then you should know that Acupressure Practitioners believe that Skin is the 3rd Lung in the body. It is not only your lungs that are involved in the breathing process, but also your skin is.
During the summer heat, the pores of the skin open out to release the heat within in order to keep you cool and during winter they close to retain the heat in your body.

Deficiency of the Lungs energy can cause Skin Allergies, Dry Skin, Wet Skin & Eczema.
Effective breathing cycle for less pain and stress:
•Take a long, slow breath through your nose. Imagine the air traveling to your chest, back and lower abdomen
•Do not tense your neck, face, shoulders and chest as you inhale
•Pause for 2 seconds and allow the inhaled air to build energy through an electrical activity
•Exhale the breath through your mouth now, in a relaxed way. Do not hold air in your mouth or close your lips
•Exhale out all the air till your lower abdomen is flat and empty of all the air.
•While exhaling, think of all the negative pain and stress leaving your body.
Repeat the cycle of inhaling and exhaling in a complete relaxed and comfortable way.

Element 2
Water
"Water is the basis of life.
First life grew in water and
subsequently every life
depends on water.
It is fundamental for life
and for your health."
Water was the first element on Earth where life grew. Every living organism depends on water for its sustainability. As infants, our body composition of water is 80%. As we grow to adults, it comes to about 70% water in our body.
New born babies have 77% – 80% of Water in them Children have about 55% – 60% of Water Adults have about 60% – 70% of Water
Every cell in our body needs water for its survival. Water is essential for digestion, for removal of the toxins from our body in the form of sweat, urine and fecal matter. Water cushions our joints and is the carrier of various nutrients and oxygen to our body cells. Our body temperature is regulated by water and its presence in the lymph gland helps the body to fight over various diseases.
