This is a fascinating and thought-provoking expose that is just as relevant today as when it was published. As a scientist myself, I can attest to the truth of what the authors have written both about the idealistic representation of science in academia and the reality of how it is practised. Broad and Wade demonstrate how the actual practice of science frequently departs from the neat process taught in high school and college courses, and how the intended safeguards of peer review and replication frequently fail to catch errors or outright fraud. The examples themselves are engaging and often amazing in their egregiousness, making for a fast and entertaining read. What is fascinating to me is that, having witnessed many of the issues inherent in the way academic success depends on publication, and having seen firsthand how rarely experimental replication of the findings of others is attempted, and how the peer review process can fail, I continued to view science as a whole through rose-colored glasses. This attitude is just what the authors describe, and while it is understandable that scientists cling to this idealized view, this book is a necessary step in facing up to the reality so that the system can be improved. For, as the authors point out, science today is not an altruistic pursuit of truth, but a career fraught with ambition, pressure, and a rigid hierarchy. Scientists working within such a system are, like any human beings, prone to err, and a better system of regulation would help prevent mistakes and deception such as described in this book.

"The Quotation of Truth!" - Dominique T. Jones

 Gone Away

I am traveling miles to find the right way

I just want to live to see another day

I see a long path that will take me to a place

A place that’s blissful to see a new face

I have gone away in my beloved car

I must not return because I am way too far

The time is passing by minute to hour

Will I make it there with enough power

Finally, my journey starts here, the time is near

I have gone away and not go back that way

 Love

Love is always the meaning of the heart

Love can come to you so fast just like a dart

Love can be unconditional and real

At time passes by, it should not be sealed

Love can have so much pain

Mostly it can make you go insane

But love is such a gift

It can be a high-passionate lift

Love sometimes can be a winner

Just don’t make it thinner

Love can be a perfect ten

I know that love can’t come to an end

 My Friend

My friend, my love

We are like two turtle doves

Our companionship connects

We look at each other and reflect

When I look at you, I see you as soft as a feather

I think about you all of the time as the days go by like weather

My calm, sweet friend to me

I never want to set you free

 Alone

I am trapped with no one to see

Can I just at least have someone come to rescue me

I am in such a lonely place with no one to hear

Then I begin to make tiny droplets of tears

Everyone is gone and I do not a human body to hold

Will someone come and converse with me before I am too old

I am alone and the world is passing me by

I start to feel apprehension and let out another cry

The time is passing by day after day

All I have to do is pray and pray

 Determination

When I enter into the world, I want to feel like a man of authenticity

I hear my heart thumping repetitiously

I look at the sky at so much blue and see all rejuvenation of humankind

I touch an encomiast that can conciliate my true dreams

I will never relinquish and never use myself as a detriment

I will not fall into the trap of entanglement, otherwise I am in a vine of solitude that no one can get me out of

I must take a stand and feel the abrasiveness flowing throughout my body and soul

I have to grab onto a tenacity of success and let the world know that I can ascend to the ladder of exuberance

When I reach that stage into my life, I will commence the pursuit of perseverance and happiness

 Freedom

Once upon a time I was awaken by the morning sun

Then I went out into the world just to
