About this ebook
Donna Mainor
In February 2007, I suffered a Stroke, which partially paralyzed the left side of my body. I lost the use of my left hand, which was my dominant hand. I never lost my love for writing poetry. Writing this book has been a healing process for me. My healing and recuperation from this debilitating illness has been very lengthy and tedious. During that time, I did a great deal of reflecting on past experiences as well as on current events and social issues. Expressing myself through poetry has always been a catharsis. Writing poetry allows me to gain and keep perspective. It is fulfilling for me to be able to share my thoughts and feelings with others through this art.

STROKE
Shooting pain all through my head like a bullet’s ricochet. I can still feel tears stinging in my eyes as medics carry me away. My beloved dog barked and howled in the night. I reached for him with all of my might. I was not healthy and could not stay. Friends and neighbors looked on .they were shocked and scared and promised to keep watch of my home;
Although there were good people everywhere, I still felt scared and alone. My left side felt numb and heavy as I struggled, but could not move, I was not a heavy drinker and never smoked a cigarette. I was asked all these crazy questions. I barely live with no regret.
For months I put my body through rigorous exercise, fighting to get back the life I lost in the blink of an eye, my movements are slow and awkward some limbs hardly
