CHAPTER 1
A Born-Again Spirit Needs
a New Menu
T he experience of receiving Christ Jesus into your heart can be compared to the birth of a baby; in fact, the Bible calls it being born again. As a newborn babe will gradually become aware of his surroundings outside his mother’s womb, so the born-again person’s spirit becomes alive to the things of God. This new spiritual life must be nurtured by the Word of God and prayer in order for this experience with God to stay alive. First Peter 2:2 says, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word (of God) that ye may grow thereby.
You will grow in the knowledge of God as you feed on his word. The daily reading of your Bible will enlighten you about God’s plan for your life; Psalm 119:105 says, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Indeed, the word of God is able to give you a new way of thinking and nourish your spirit all at once. This word of God is the bread your spirit lives on. The renewing of your mind (see Romans 12:2) by reading the word of God empowers your spirit to walk in victory and defeat the devil. Always remember, the word of God is to your spirit as natural food is to your body. Your spirit will not survive without God’s
