    My Heart

As I sit here wondering where did I go wrong,

It hurts so bad thinking I’ve find someone so great to replace you,

But all I keep doing is compare you to everything in this world,

All I wanted you to do was love me, spoil me, and most of all never hurt me.

I told myself I’d never fall in love again unless the boy was a friend,

Only to find myself crying and hurting again,

And at the worst time in my life, all I want to know is Are you still happy without me?

Everyone keeps telling me it will get better in due time,

But it hurt that you’re not mine,

I would wish anyone to feel this pain that I’m feeling,

It feels like jail. I’m alone.

You became my drug, and I became addicted, and it’s too late to turn or look back.

Life feels like it can’t get no better without you.

I should have given you an NBA ring for all the games you played with me.

You showed me the love we had was not real. I guess I’m just another name in your little black book

The man who broke my heart still holds a piece of my heart.

    I love you, Baby-boy

Everybody Has A Story to Tell

    CHAPTER 1

Kyla had just gotten in from seeing Queen at the county jail. As soon as she walked in the door, the phone started ringing. She looked at the caller ID: it was Cash. Kyla rolled eyes into the back of her head. She was tired of him stringing her along. The only reason she kept him around because he gave her money and always made sure she was good.

    Hello, Kyla said.

    What’s up? he said.

Nothing. Just got in from seeing Queen.

Oh, that’s what’s up? How is she?

She’s good. You know, holding her head, Anyway how are you? Kyla replied, not really caring – just making conversation

I’m good. I wondered if you wanted to chill tonight.

See, I knew it, she thought. The only reason he called was to fuck.

Nah, I have a big exam tomorrow. I’ll call you tomorrow afternoon.

    Okay, Cash said.

After hanging up, Kyla hopped into the shower and brushed her teeth again. She put her hair in a ponytail and threw on some sweatpants and a T-shirt. As she got her things together and walked out the door, she hoped and prayed she would get out of class early.

Kyla wishes came true; she did get out of class early. On her way home, she went to the grocery store to get some food for the house. When Kyla walked into the house, she couldn’t believe it: shit was everywhere; the baby, Brea, was crying; and the phone was ringing. First, she answered the phone.

    Hello?

This is the New York operator. I have a collect call from … ‘Queen’. If you wish to pay for this call, press one now.

    Kyla pressed one and waited.

    What’s up? Queen asked.

Nothing, just got in from class, Kyla answered letting out a deep breath.

Oh, how was it? And why? You sound like you’re upset or something. Is everything okay? Queen asked, feeling bad that she could not do anything to help.

Everything cool, and class was fine. I got a B on my English paper. Anyway how are you? Kyla asked, no longer making the topic about her. She hate telling Queen about the bullshit Diamond and Mari were doing.

I’m good. You know, holding my head. Where is Parish at?

He’s in the living room watching TV. Would you like to speak with him?

    Yeah.

Okay, hold on. Kyla called Parish to get the phone, and he came running with joy, knowing that it was his mother or father on the phone.

    Hello? Parish said.

Hey! Baby-boy, Queen said smiling. How are you?

    Hi, Ma. I miss you.

I miss you too. Are you being a good boy for auntie?

Yes, Ma. When are you coming home? Parish asked in a very sad voice.

Queen hated when Parish asked her that question. Hell, she did not know the answer to the question herself. I’ll be home soon baby. Just keep being a good boy for auntie.

    Okay, Ma.

    I love you, Parish.

I love you too, ma, Parish said with a sad voice that brought tears to Queen eyes.

Kyla gave Brea a bottle of milk while Parish was talking and rocked her to sleep.

She laid Brea down in Diamond’s bed, and then went back to the kitchen and got the phone from Parish. She sat down at the kitchen table. Did you speak to my lawyer? Queen asked Kyla.

Yeah, I have to go bring her some money to tomorrow. She should be coming to see you sometime this week.

    Okay.

The operator came in on their call. You have sixty seconds left for this call.

My time is running out, sis, but never my love, I love you.

I love you more, sis. See you next week, Kyla said and hung up.

    CHAPTER 2

Kyla, Brea, Diamond, and Parish all lived at Queen’s house. Queen, Kyla and Mari were sisters, although Queen had a different father. Kyla and Mari’s father was also the father of Karen and Diamond.

Queen, Kyla, and Mari’s mother was on drugs and had been in and out of jail for half of their lives. As Kyla and Mari had the same father, who had his things together, they went to stay with him when their mother was sentenced to six years in jail for drugs.
