About this ebook

HAIKU PUNmanship continues in the tradition of my four recent other haiku/pun books. A pun word or expression is embedded in each haiku, that 3-lined Japanese unrhymed verse that has survived since antiquity. These haikus/puins reflect a whole gamut of life experiences and sentiments, touching upon,
love, occupations, crime, sex, nature and God knows what ad nauseam. So go ahead, smile, giggle, groan, wince or laugh out loud.

Author

Paul Treatman

Paul Treatman spent most of his life in New York City, achieving his baccalaureate, master’s and Ph.D. degrees under the G.I. Bill of Rights. Deferring his youthful passions for drama and creative writing until his career as a New York educator was drawing to retirement, he acted in community theatre and film, and began writing haiku poetry. Treatman is biographied in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World; and is a World War II decorated combat medic. The author now resides in a senior retirement community in New Jersey, where he continues writing haiku, and is actively involved in local social, political and veterans’ affairs. He has two children, four grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

    Haiku Punmanship - Paul Treatman

    Acknowledgments

Thank you, Sylvia Rubin, your love and devotion are my raison d’être.

This little volume is my latest in a quintilogy (is there such a word?) of five books of haikus with a twist, the twist being the embedding of a pun in the haiku context.

HAIKU PUNmanship follows HAIKU PUNishment,, A HAIKU/PUN FOR EVERYONE, MORE HAIKU FOR PUNSTERS, and HAIKUS FOR PUNSTERS (these titles listed in reverse chronological order).

My thanks for some punny suggestions go to Sylvia Rubin, Bernie Gutstadt, Linda Lemay,Dann Mann and Chuck Farber. In a sense, they have rewarded (or PUNished?) me for tolerating what I have inflicted upon them in recent years.

    Dedication

To Abbe Jo and Jeffrey, Scott and Linda, Melissa and Bryon, Jennifer and Anthony; Elexa, Ava, Jake, Troy, and Anthony Jackson, any more great-grandchildren in the future.

    And

    To the cherished memory of

Elaine Treatman, who started it all.

    Foreword

The haiku is a very old Japanese verse form that attempts to express cogently a thought in an economical three lines, five
