Sips from a Chipped Cup - Richard D. Toots

    Sips

    I have an old

    And battered cup

    Chips worn down

    By gentle care.

    From this

    I most delight

    To sip

    When I flee the burdens

    That I bare.

    It reminds me

    Of my fragile stance;

    My very feeble frame.

    Of the grace

    Of God poured out

    On those who call

    On Jesus’s name.

    It remindes me that

    I am but clay

    In Father potter’s hands.

    A vessel set aside

To reach and bless the land.

    I’m reminded

    When I see these chips

    Of the covenant of grace.

That not by my own merit

Some day I’ll see your face.

    Then this cup

    Shall overflow

    Of what you’ve

    Placed within.

    A tempered, purified

    Heart of love

    Devoid of all my sin.

    Then I shall see

    With unveiled face

    What all before me saw.

    The fullness of your glory

    And be consumed in awe.

    Walk The Path

    Walk the well warn path

    Lit by prayer

    And by God’s word

    Set aflame.

    Witness the Gospel

    Of your dear Lord

    O’ child

    Love the name.

    Repent my child

    Each day. each night

    Walk in Christ

    Keep him in sight.

    Walk this true path

    On your knees

    Love your Jesus

    More than these.

    Hate your sin

    That fleshly work

    But your soul

    Do not despise.

    If you could only

    See yourself

    As God does

    Through loving eyes.

    Hear It Beating

Hear it beating in the street

There’s people he wants you to

    meet

Listen to the heart of God

Put your candle well in sight

Take the bushel from your light

Listen to the heart of God

    He’s commanded you to go

So, why are you so slow?

    How else will they know?

Listen to the heart of God

    O’ Christian, draw near

    He wants you to hear

    You are his joy, delight

So, go shine forth his light

Listen to the heart of God

    Why can’t you see

    What you should be

    The lost are a sea

Listen to the heart of God

    Reach to the lost

    Preach to the soul

    Teach to the mind

Listen to the heart of God

    Jesus Loves More

    Lovely people

    Lives torn apart by war

    Love them deeply

    Jesus loves them more.

    Little children

    Dying the world over

    Love them desperately

    Jesus loves them more.

    Sick and dying

    Hearts weary and sore

    Love them with compassion

    Jesus loves them more.

    Broken, stumbling, falling brothers

    Love them prostrate

    On the floor

    Delighting in

    This certain knowledge

    That Jesus loves them more.

    Pray for and comfort

    Widows, orphans

    Open every door

    Serve them at

    Your inconvience

    Jesus loves them more.

    Saints who walked

    This lonesome valley

    Loving Jesus over and over

    Walk now holy

    In his presence

    But Jesus loves them more.

    Those who irritate you

And those you think a bore

    Love them without malice

    Jesus loves them
