A Moment with God for Volunteers - Lisa Flinn

    A CLEAN SWEEP

    Image3

God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together, he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

    Genesis 1:10

    God,

At the beach today we picked up

    one section of pipe

    two tires

    five plastic containers

    eight six-pack rings

    eleven articles of clothing

    fifteen glass bottles

    twenty-seven aluminum cans

and two hundred and ten cigarette butts.

At the end of the summer, the shore needs a clean sweep.

We worked hard today to care for the earth and sea, and it was good.

    A THANK YOU

    Image4

"Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.''

    Matthew 12:34c

    Blessed One,

I had a surprise visitor today. Not an old roommate or a long-lost friend, but someone I helped a few years ago.

With anticipation, I listened to a story of well-being and success. Sweet words of gratitude filled my ears and replenished my heart. It made my day to be counted among someone's blessings.

Thank you for sharing this happy ending with me.

    AFTER THE DISASTER

    Image5

But you shall love your neighbor as yourself.

    Leviticus 19:18b

    O God,

Our community has suffered great hardship since nature took its course. More than the loss of convenience and creature comforts, people have lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones.

However, this disaster brought us closer as neighbors. We made strange feasts from the food in our thawing freezers. We welcomed the hospitality of those who still had running water. We shared our tools, our time, and our comfort. Joining with volunteers from afar, we have started to put things right
