Preface
This book is for shy or introverted people who want to get better at meeting new people. We want to know how to:
1. Meet new people.
2. Start conversations safely.
That’s it.
Later we can learn about rapport, selling our ideas, how to bond for the long-term, make friends, or become a world-class public speaker.
But for now, we want a commonsense approach to meeting new people and starting a conversation.
What if you already know how to meet an unlimited number of people and start awesome conversations?
Well, if you already knew these skills, you wouldn't be reading this book. You would be out talking to new people!
But for the rest of us? We want to overcome our fear of talking to strangers. We want to feel comfortable, even if we are at a party or event where we don’t know anyone.
We can be great at meeting new people. This book will give us the step-by-step techniques.

I want to meet new people now, but …
Are we nervous when meeting people? Do we feel a lack of self-confidence? Are we afraid of rejection?
Of course. These feelings mean we are normal.
We get these feelings because of our past. Do we have vivid memories of stupid mistakes in grade school? Maybe we humiliated ourselves in front of the class. Everyone has embarrassing mistakes from their past.
What happens when we relive those memories in our mind? Our mind feels as though those mistakes are happening to us again. This chips away at our self-confidence.
Or, maybe we remember our parents saying, Don’t talk to strangers!
Now, our parents gave us this program with the best intentions. In our early years, this program served us well. But what about now?
Now our program to avoid talking to strangers holds us back. We have a nagging feeling in our minds that we shouldn't approach strangers.
So, if we haven't practiced the skills of meeting new people, it would be natural for us to feel shy and uneasy about our encounters.
If we feel uneasy talking to strangers, we have good reasons.
To counteract these negative feelings, we need to have new, positive experiences of talking to people. To do this, we will need new skills.
Skills?
Yes. Like any task in life, meeting new people requires skills. Fortunately, we can learn new skills. We learned how to use a smartphone. We learned how to manipulate the remote control for our televisions. Meeting people will be one more skill we can add to our experience.
With a little practice, we will remove our fears and increase our success.
The first attempt at getting a date.
Imagine a 15-year-old boy asking a young lady for his first date. Yes, we know this will be ugly. We hope the young lady will have mercy on him as he stutters and fails to get to the point. Thankfully, most young ladies have manners and compassion.
What happens if we never attempt to meet new people? Then our first encounter will look similar to the 15-year-old boy’s experience. We will be nervous, insecure, and will speak with hesitation.
But let's fast-forward one year. The young boy asked for many dates during the past year. Each request was an improvement, and of course, he got better results. His confidence went up. Now he knows what to expect and how to answer most responses. And yes, he will get more dates.
We will get better.
The more we practice, the easier it gets. The first few attempts at meeting new people are the most difficult.
A good analogy to this is drinking coffee. If we are coffee lovers, we can't wait to have our next cup of coffee. But was it that way the first time we tasted coffee?
No. Our first taste of coffee made us think, "Oh, this is bitter. But other people like it. I will keep
