Empath - Ashley Jones
Introduction: What is an Empath?
image01Researching the definition of an Empath will lead you through a maze of spiritual beliefs, psychological hypothesis, and academic explanations, and you will probably come out the other side with just as many if not more questions than when you entered your search. The reason for this is that an Empath's extreme gifts, powers, and practical abilities are often confused with what most of us would consider being just highly sensitive and empathetic people who tend to take on the problems of the world.
Although Empaths do take on the problems of the world, they hide the degree to which they absorb everyone else’s emotions, mental pain, and physical ailments. When researching a stated definition of an Empath, you’ll find almost all of them identify a person with paranormal abilities who takes on the emotions and physical state of others. Most of the definitions will be further limiting by qualifying the definitions with phrasing such as ‘found in science fiction.
With doubt and disbelief are how people who are not Empaths view those who are—as if their gifts and powers are not real. Consequently, the Empath tends to believe they are somewhat crazy, high strung, and extremely moody. Sadly, many Empaths live in a constant state of denial or confusion, unable to understand why they might be feeling on top of the world one moment and the next minute they are suddenly bombarded with feelings of sadness and depression. Instead of attributing it to the emotional energy they are picking up from others nearby, Empaths mistakenly believe they are bipolar or suffer from another mental disorder label given to them by medical professionals from whom they seek help.
Empaths know they are different, but many never learn to use their gifts and powers to benefit themselves and others. Instead, they hide them from a world of doubters who try to convince them to take medicine or enter years of therapy to help them work through ‘their' issues when all along most of what they are feeling isn't ‘theirs' at all. Empaths carry the weight of everybody else's emotional problems and physical burdens, and often never learn how to lighten the load and help others to do the same. Instead, most unsuspecting Empaths go through life drained of energy or like zombies devoid of any feelings because they are medicated to the hilt.
Those in the know suspect there are different kinds of Empaths, taking on the negative and positive energy in a variety of ways, such as follows.
Earth Empaths
These types of Empaths feel the planet's energy. If there is an impending Tsunami, the Earth Empath would feel the vibration and power of the event before it happened. They might suddenly get back spasms or a pounding headache that passes after the event has happened.
Global Empaths
Global Empaths take on the sorrows of humans all over the world. They feel the pain of a country crying out for freedom, or a civilization being destroyed by hunger and disease.
Animal Empaths
Animal Empaths feel the emotions of animals, often feeling sad and trapped when they visit a zoo or wildlife park. They know and understand the emotions of animals because they feel what the animal is feeling. It isn’t always sad feelings, sometimes they feel the contentment and joy of a loved animal as well, which gives the animal Empath unexplainable euphoria.
Emotional Empaths
Emotional Empaths take on the feelings of an individual's energy, both positive and negative, which can explain why the Empath might display emotions that are out of harmony or inappropriate to what they have. For example,
