About this ebook
Kalgoorlie is the first in the James and Miceal Series. The two meet in the Australian outback in a place called Kalgoorlie. They harbor secret desires for each other which eventually make there way closer and closer to the surface. It is however a horrific accident involving Miceal that sees James taking on a junior journalist job at the Daily Telegraph. Nursing Miceal back to health and reporting on what turns out to be one of the biggest scandals to rock Australian politics start the two lovers on a journey that is a roller-coaster ride to boot. It sees the two boys hooking up with the most unlikely of teams, 2 elderly lesbian lasses, the Australian Prime Minister, a General in the Australian air force, and a team of hackers using the 'dark web' to make sense of the chaos. It's a journey that takes them around the world putting all the pieces of the puzzle together to finally see if they can outsmart the scandal of all scandals. It is non-stop action till the very last page. A few shoot outs and car chases expose the key guilty parties, raking in millions of US dollars through fraud and money laundering. Once the story breaks, all hell breaks loose. The second novel in the series was released in March 2018 and the third is in review for release later this year. Work has begun on the fourth book in the series and the fifth installment is in development phase.

d.s. Eliot spent ten years of his life in semi-retirement, building preposterously large structures, teaching himself the art of cheese making. How not to make bad whiskey and gin crafted in the old back yard, before retiring to pursue his true passion: writing fiction. He released his first novel, Kalgoorlie, in December of 2017. It became the first book in the James and Miceal Series. The plan is to translate the book into 5 languages, and to also develop a screen play for a major motion picture. The second novel, Roma, follows James and Miceal to Rome, where d.s. Eliot holidayed with his late mother and now husband. A wonderful bonding with a hardworking teacher, his mother had lived life in a small town where he was born. Roma was released in March of 2018.The third in the James and Miceal series, Duras, was released in December 2018. As always d.s. Eliot goes to base, a small village in the south of France that by chance he visited near half his age. It was a cold winter but very much joyous with an infamous castle invasion unbeknown to the owners to this day. It is a hilarious story.James and Miceal don’t let up there and d.s. Chapter 1
A while ago, as all stories start, in this case with the sun coming up. In a dusty outback town in Australia called Kalgoorlie. A mining town with the largest gold open pit mine in the country. Saturday. It so happens that the dads, both miners, Paul and John get drunk and pass out.
In the early hours of Sunday morning their sons, Miceal and James, both seventeen-year Old’s and happy as kittens, cuddle in the shed out back in the unseasonal cold weather. It never gets cold here.
Miceal the bigger and rugged built sportsman’s arm hangs loosely over the slighter frame of James. James, very good looking, a little shy, but highly articulate, likes the protectiveness of Miceal, it makes him feel safe. The weather is turning even colder in the early morning hours. James shivers, vaguely awake by a rather loud snore from Miceal. Then, awake at the hardness pressing into his lower back, OMG!
He thinks, It’s cold so I don’t want to roll away.
In that single moment James realizes that he is in love with his best friend and not in the way that the world thinks appropriate. Hesitantly, he rolls away on to his stomach.
As the sun rises it warms the cold air and Miceal slowly wakes, still with his arm draped over James. Eventually whispering to James, It was cold last night. Best we go and wake up the old guys and sort out breakfast. After all we are going hunting today.
James does not enjoy the prospect at all. His dad, John will get drunk and be egged on by Paul, shooting at anything that moves. Increasingly, as they stir to the morning, James cannot think of anything else, only Miceal. Am I bad and broken?
Or is this the moment that he realizes that he is in love with Miceal, for real?
The waking is met with morning whiskey shots for the dads. During bacon and eggs, prepared by James and Miceal, there is much chest slapping and debate on how many kangaroos will get some lead today.
The boys follow the hunting miners obediently, pouring beer and getting the odd slap for whatever meaningless offence is perceived. Paul and John are not gentle in any way or form. The morning passes quietly with several kangaroos losing their lives.
As soon as they can avoid any of the obligatory responsibility to serve, Miceal and James head to the nearby swimming hole. Nestled in a spot that’s inconceivable in this dusty patch of land. An aquifer that surfaces into a pool that holds normally warm water. Today it is a little cold but none the less wonderfully refreshing. Skinny dipping time it is. James cannot drag his eyes from Miceal as he dives into the water. What are you staring at?
barks Miceal.
That hickey on your face,
blurts James and passes him into the cold water, mainly to hide his growing erection. Much frolicking and splashing with both eventually exhausted sees them heading back.
Immediately they stroll in, Paul, drunk as a lord lays into Miceal. Where have you been? Whoring around?
Miceal gets a proper beating.
James simply runs away, scared to be caught in the beating. His dad, John, is passed out, Thank God!
The shed out back once again his only sanctuary in this god-forsaken place.
Monday, James wakes up in the shed. No Miceal. Panic. Where is he? We always sleep out here
. No Miceal. Anywhere. Eventually he runs to the mine’s communal sleepover and asks Paul and John if they have seen Miceal? Promptly receiving a beating for waking them up. Paul and John are not gentle in any way or form.
James distraught after recently discovering his feelings for Miceal flees to the local. Battered, but nothing a few beers won’t cure. It may only be 09h00, but nothing an Aussie lad can’t handle. The beer mellows his mood. However no amount of beer changes his longing for Miceal. It feels like he is going crazy. Is this my life? Nothing but the bar, and the mine. Work. Drink. Work. Drink.
The next three years are a blur. The longing never going away, neither do the beatings.
Finally fate steps in. While driving a truck to the mine mill. A tyre burst causing James’s truck to overturn. The result, a broken wrist that requires very delicate surgery. With very little available in Kalgoorlie, the local doctor advises that James should go to Sydney for a specialist to look at and operate on his wrist. Not being able to perform the most basic of functions without a working wrist, James asks an old school friend for help. James phones, Hey Kyle I need some help. I have stuffed up my wrist and the doc says I need an operation. It’s a little tricky getting around with only the one hand, don’t you want to come with me to Sydney, chaperon me as it were? At least you will be out of this hole we live in for a while.
Kyle, Honey I would love to, I have some leave due at the store and those bastards have that use it or lose it policy. Might even find myself a shag in the bright lights of our harbour city.
Chapter 2
James and Kyle head off to the airport. Kyle, Yeah, sisters in transit. Let’s have a drink before we take off.
James, Sure and knowing you we may just miss the flight, entertaining the miscreants of Kalgoorlie.
Kyle, Honey then we will catch the next flight, now stop your party pooping. You at least have one good wrist to flap around, use the power of positive thinking.
James, Okay maybe one, it will help for the pain.
The plane proves to be no different as they slot down more drinks.
Kyle a little worse for wear on landing, What do you think Sydney holds today?
James, Who knows.
The taxi ride to the hospital is disrupted by a LGBT riot. James, I think they are protesting against police brutality. Pity we can’t join, it could be fun.
Kyle, Yes being arrested and frisked by some cute constable.
James, Wouldn’t that prove their innocence though, treating us gently?
Kyle, Oh God no, their guilt. I want it rough baby.
James, Get me to the hospital and then you can have your fun Darling.
During the operation Kyle contacts Miceal unbeknown to James. Kyle has always thought him hot, and what goes on tour stays on tour. The post-op recovery proceeds well, this while Miceal and Kyle are reacquainted.
James on his mobile, Hey Kyle I know the doctor said it will be another week before I could be discharged but this morning he walks in says I can be discharged today.
Kyle, Fabulous, I have an interview for a shop assistant at 12h00. Will you be able to manage on your own? Can we meet for drinks at Stonewall at 18h00?
James, "That will be fine it’s going to take me all of that to get discharged, the paperwork is endless.
Kyle, You can crash with me at the YMCA tonight. When will you be going back?
James, Haven’t thought about it yet. Let’s chat about it later, it seems like you are staying here, you horny little slapper! Later then.
When James walks into the pub he is horrified to see that Kyle and Miceal kissing, quietly in a back corner of the bar. Strange.
he thinks Here he is with my best friend. Life is just not fair.
Miceal sees James, James how are you?
hugging him against his muscular frame.
James, Great if you don’t snap my wrist a second time.
Miceal slowly lets go, Sorry, Kyle told me all about the accident and surgery. I didn’t think I’d get to see you.
James, Hey Kyle, you get the job?
Kyle, Yes, I start tomorrow, great news. I am going to have to let you down on your return trip.
James, That’s okay. Miceal what have you been up to, you left rather abruptly?
Miceal a darkened expression crosses his face, Couldn’t handle it anymore, I am so sorry. I have been coaching a ladies sevens rugby team.
Kyle, He is so butch wouldn’t you say?
Miceal, Oh cut it out, here for a beer mate.
as he woefully casts an eye over James.
Kalgoorlie is Kalgoorlie.
James despairs. Despite his hand being in a synthetic cast, when he gets to the sleepover, his dad hands out a beating for him being so careless. How could he damage the company vehicle? Alone his lip bleeding, Enough is enough. Self-discovery time, James. I must find Miceal and tell him how I feel,
he thinks. He phones Kyle and asks the question What is Miceal’s mobile number.
Kyle, I don’t have his new number yet, for some reason he said he going to change it and would give me a call as soon as he has it. He hasn’t called me yet.
James, Please send it when you get it.
James none the less goes to Sydney, not a small place with just over 4 million people. James needs money so he reads the smalls for work. Despite all the searching he can’t find Miceal. One of the ads strikes him. An environmental job in Reykjavik, Iceland. He gets the job after a brief Skype interview. Still no Miceal. Heartbroken he decides to go to take the job in Iceland. After all that is where he found the love of his life, in the cold of an Aussie winter in the outback. Unseasonably cold. The cold of Iceland may stay his love for Miceal. Where to find himself other than in a cold foreign place. Before leaving one final call to Kyle. Do you have a number for Miceal – Please?
No, but his Dad has just died, he will be buried tomorrow, presumably he will be there.
James’s flight to Iceland only leaves in three days. He decides to go back to Kalgoorlie for the funeral. His heart flutters at the thought of seeing Miceal again. Off to the airport. James makes it to the funeral on time.
Chapter 3
Miceal is not there. James is heartbroken and flees back to his connecting flight to Zurich and then on to Iceland. The flight again to Zurich is uncomfortable but uneventful. The delay however not so much. James heads off to the toilet with a four-hour layover to Reykjavik. Minding his own business at the urinal, a very hot Swiss boy joins him. James glances, but being a rather conservative outback Aussie boy, just focuses on having a pee. Not so the Swiss lad, who’s name turns out to be Sven. He has different ideas and makes the move. James stares, WOW!
He stares and cannot help the corresponding response of his crotch. They grope and head off to one of the cubicles. The net result is that James gets a whole load off his mind. Sven and James exchange mobile numbers. While the English Sven commands is limited, they agree to hook up on James’s return to Australia in 3 months’ time.
The flight to Reykjavik is very bumpy and James feels nervous until the touch down. Clearing customs is easy but the walk into the cold air is staggering. At minus ten degrees Celsius, an Aussie lad used to forty degrees plus, was not the welcome James was hoping for. His ride to the environmental camp, Veraldarvinir, is pristinely beautiful. The snow and the black volcanic rock meld into something from a fairy-tale. James is enthralled. James is going to help renovate a farmhouse outside of the capital. Also helping to grow vegetables. Herbs in a hothouse, and collecting seaweed. James settles in just fine, he finds the people rude and distant. An Aussie guy is always friendly to a fault, G’day mate, can I buy you a beer?
Not here. Quite rude, sexist and insular. James, being James just keeps at his brand of being friendly. To be fair he also thought privately that both male and female, had not been struck with the pretty stick. The work is easy for this Aussie boy. His wrist hurts a little at the end of the day, but then as one would, suck it up.
Two weeks later, on his second weekend, James decides to head to The Blue Lagoon, even though it’s Sunday and not technically his day off. Despite the cold, the foreign tourists add a pleasant distraction, he does however miss home and especially MIceal. After two hours in the volcanic heated blue water, he is withered from the water. Out and back to Veraldarvinir.
On his return to Veraldarvinir, his boss Thomas corners him. Where have you been?
The Blue Lagoon,
says James.
You did not get my permission.
I don’t need it, it’s Sunday.
Don’t get cheeky with me, you little faggot.
Fuck You!
I beg your pardon! You’re fired you little faggot, get out and now!
Fuck you! Shove your job up your ass!
Seldom does James lose his temper in fact, as a rule he always runs away, but not today. Something has been building up in him and he aches for Miceal. Miceal must be traceable and if Miceal doesn’t want him, he will have to deal with that. So quickly he packs his stuff, glad to be rid of this insane cold.
On the flight to Zurich James goes to his somewhat genetic roots and gets completely pissed. He wakes up to the announcement, Ladies and Gentlemen. Please ensure that your safety belt is engaged, we are about to land at Kloten International.
James vaguely complies wishing that he had been a little more discreet with the alcohol. James fumbles through to the airport lounge waiting to connect to Sydney. This part he hates and with a big hangover, drinking is not an option in the international connection lounge.
Finally, the layover of four hours is over. He embarks. Qantus Airlines with accents that warm his heart. They set out for Sydney. "Would he find his love
