The justice system in the new female-run order is simple. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, males may come before a single lady magistrate; a female judge; or a panel of three judges, all female of course. There are no jury trials for males — this, it is felt, would be a needless expense. This is for all the usual crimes such as robbery. But males are also sentenced for drinking, drug-taking, smoking, dishonesty and laziness — all classed as crimes.

Sentences range from three months to two years, without remission. A two-year sentence is, in fact, likely to be a life sentence in practice,, since the longer inside the more likely extensions of sentence due to ‘infractions’.

Males can also be sentenced to a ‘short, sharp shock’ — say, one month — for failure to show proper respect towards the Superior Sex. For example, failing to address any woman, of whatever class, as ‘Miss’ or ‘Madam’; or failing to step aside and bow the head when a woman passes them in the street.

A Wife or Mistress can also bring charges against a male and make recommendations to the Court as to the sentence. Incidentally, a wife may divorce her husband at any time and a Mistress may exchange or sell a male whenever she wishes.

Accused males are both prosecuted and defended by female lawyers, since the law is now one of the professions from which men are bared. Acquittals are very rare. Defence counsel is in fact more concerned with making sure that the male understands why he is being tried and sentenced than with any ideas of actually trying to have him pronounced innocent. After all, if he were innocent, he would hardly be on trial, would he?!
