Tomorrow your mistress will be here, Angela said to Tony one Friday night in August. Tony had just got back from dropping the kids off at their grandparents for the weekend so they could be alone for two days. When Angela referred to Tony’s mistress, she was certainly not talking about someone he was having an affair with. She was talking about her alter ego, the woman who likes to dominate Tony, whose alter ego in turn is her slave. To the outside world, Tony and Angela appear no different from any other happily married couple living in an unremarkable, respectable suburb of a modern city in Britain. No debt collectors call.
