It is eight o'clock in the morning at Willowgrove Prison, a vast concrete complex erected in the countryside some miles from the nearest town. It is one of twenty-eight such complexes throughout the country. The parade ground in the middle of the complex is filled with silent figures, standing rigidly at attention, under the watchful eye of some twenty women Guards. These male prisoners are all naked but for a leather restrainer and boots. This is all they ever wear. Come rain or shine, frost or snow, every morning those near-nude male prisoners stand on that parade ground for at least an hour, awaiting the arrival of the Commandant. When it is cold, the Guards wear a leather overcoat on top of their uniform, which
