PLACE – A VILLAGE IN RAYALASEEMA, INDIA

It was a rainy night. The only sound that could be heard in the whole village of Venkatapuram was the sound made by the raindrops.

Maheshwari was crying on her bed. It had been around a month since she was married. But it was no normal marriage. Susheel Kumar Reddy who was a noted factionist in AP had kidnapped her from her marriage venue at gun point.

Susheel was like kingmaker in AP. The government was running on him. He could easily change the government like he changes a hat. The press, police and politicians knew this but no one took his name as he didn’t like publicity. Hence the general public was unaware about him. Susheel loved Majeshwari but she didn’t reciprocate and chose the person whom her parents had chosen.

Maheshwari’s parents ran from pillar to post as their only daughter had been kidnapped but no one came forward to help them. Finally they resigned to fate and accepted Susheel as their son-in-law. Susheel was an introvert ever since he lost his parents in his childhood. He had no immediate family members and always liked to stay alone. He told his in-laws in certain terms to not visit him regularly.

Laxmi Narayana was Susheel’s right hand and best friend. He was like a general in Susheel’s army and almost wielded thepower as Susheel in the region. About 30 villages in the area were under his control. Narayan’s wife was Sridevi. She was born and brought up in a nearby village and was timid in nature unlike Maheshwari who was educated and more rebellious in nature. Narayan was very cruel at times and would trash Sridevi for trivial matters. Sridevi lived under constant fear.

Susheel waited for a week but seeing no change in Maheshwari he forced himself on her and pleased his sexual appetite. Maheshwari slept like a log while Susheel enjoyed her body like a piece of meat.

It had now been almost 3 weeks since Maheshwari’s abduction. She no longer cried about her fate and decided to pick up the broken dreams and go forward. Maheshwari and Sridevi became thick friends.
