Please tell me who is the woman my husband is having an affair with? Aruna asked the private detective she had hired to dig the truth.

Pramod hesitated for a few moments while Aruna’s patience was thinning with each second. He slowly removed a sealed envelope from his desk draw and placed it on the table and pushed it towards Aruna silently.

Aruna’s hand shivered as she took the envelope and tore it open. Inside it were various photos of a woman dressed elegantly in sarees, salwars, skirts etc.

Is this her? Who is she? she asked as her voice choked.

Please look carefully. You know the person very well he replied.

Aruna looked carefully and got a shock of her life. The woman in the photo was none other than her husband Dipen. She looked at it speechlessly.

"Yes. That is your husband. I have been tracking him since the past one month. He has rented a room where is crossdresses frequently. I had put hidden cameras in his room to take these pictures. Aruna paid Pramod and left the office in a daze.

Aruna and Dipen had been married for the past 3 years. It was difficult for her to believe her husband was a crossdresser. He seemed perfectly normal. In fact a bit of a male chauvinist. He always insisted that she wear traditional clothes and opposed her wearing jeans. He never did any housework saying it was women’s work. Before marriage Aruna was a bit of a tomboy and hardly wore sarees or salwars. But due to Dipen being adamant she discarded all her jeans. She even left a lucrative job as a creative director at an ad agency which she resigned after her marriage. Thereby all her dreams had crumbled and she lived a painful life. There were numerous time when she tearfully blamed god for being born as a girl.

Dipen was a smoker and drinks frequently. Every time he came home drunk he behaved savagely with Aruna. Even committing marital rape several times. Aruna has once found a pair of earrings in Dipen’s pocket and suspected he was having an affair. Hence to catch him red handed she hired a private eye. But what came out was a huge shock. She felt like her life was ruined.

She went home and lied down on the bed wetting the pillow with her tears. That night Dipen came home drunk again. Aruna looked at him angrily. She was still not able to believe her husband was a eunuch. Although she was tempted to confront him better sense prevailed and she decided to wait for the opportune moment.

Dipen’s family consisted of his father Sitaram who was a former exercise officer who was suspended from his job due to corruption. Dipen’s personality traits were a carbon copy of his dad’s except for his cross-dressing. After suspension Sitaram started lazing around at home as his son was already earning.

Dipen’s mother is Madhavi. She is a typical traditional housewife who silently bore her husband’s tantrums all through her married life without any qualms. But the biggest scar in her life was the loss of her daughter Dipika was also Dipen’s twin sister. She was a bright and lively girl whose dream was to become a marine engineer but Sitaram did not agree saying all she needs is a simple B.Sc. and then get married. With her dream being mercilessly killed Dipika committed suicide. Although Sitaram felt bad about it he moved on with life but Madhavi left like half of her heart was missing. In order to compensate for the loss of her daughter she looked after aruna like her daughter.

After a sleepless night Aruna went to the kitchen next morning. Madhavi was already there in the kitchen. Aruna wished her good morning but saw that Madhavi’s eyes were red due to continuous crying.

What happened Attayya (mother-in-law)? she asked with genuine concern forgetting her dilemma momentarily.

Nothing Madhavi tried to cover. But Aruna insisted and finally Madhavi relented.

This Friday is Dipika’s death anniversary. Your father-in-law is going on a trip with his friends and is not performing the anniversary rituals said Madhavi with tears in her eyes. Aruna was disgusted with the men in the house. As she was consoling Madhavi an idea struck her sowing the seeds for a formidable plan that would change the lives of that family forever.

That evening Madhavi had gone for a wedding along with Sitaram. Aruna had skipped it by faking a headache. Dipen too came early from office as Madhavi has strictly told him to come home to attend to Aruna. Dipen saw that Madhavi was sitting in the hall in a royal pose watching TV. She seemed to be in a jubilant mood.

You seem to be in really bad shape? he asked her sarcastically

Aruna smiled in return.
