About this ebook

A Firesetter Short Story

Practically from his first memory, Ary knew he was destined for the SpaceForce Academy, following in the footsteps of his famous parents.  However, attending the Alliance’s premier military school was quite a daunting prospect.  Fortunately, his sort-of step-sister, Kit would be right by his side.  That is, until Kit unexpectedly announces she'd rather try her luck on Broadway.  Now, Ary’s off to the Academy himself, doing his best not to screw up and unfortunately failing miserably.

Grandma Jill rolled her eyes and made a similar snorting noise in her nose, while I glanced at Kit, my step-sister and fellow future cadet.  She also rolled her eyes and shook her head, only slightly, just enough for me alone to see.

Since Ary’s already a pretentious snob, he’ll fit right in, Kit announced, never one to hold back on her true opinions.  Normally, I would have assumed my step-sister was joking, in which case there ought to have been a twinkle in her bright blue eyes.  Instead, they looked hard and her mouth was a thin straight line.

Thanks, Kit.  I smiled a little, still hoping she was teasing.  I wasn’t a pretentious snob, was I?  Certainly, I didn’t try to be.  Frankly, most of the time, I just kept my mouth shut and my opinions to myself.  If that came across as snobbish, it wasn’t my fault.

Kit sniffed loudly and turned away, dragging a hand through her curly blue hair, while shaking her head again as if I was too stupid to figure it out.  Since, we had both
