Halloween Introduction
From the Editor
Welcome to the first official theme issue of Uncharted Frontier Magazine! Many of us on the Frontier have always been huge fans of the Halloween season. I remember being mesmerized by the Fall changing of the leaves here in the Northeast US from a very early age. What stuck with me most, when I hit the age of five or so, was sitting around the bonfire hearing my Father tell a ghost story or two.
I remember my cousin David was living with us at the time, and my Dad had set up the giant tent (well it was pretty big to me then) in our backyard and we were all going to spend a summer night sleeping outside. We roasted marshmallows, ate fire-roasted hot-dogs shared some laughs and then settled in for the night.
That was when my Dad told us our first Ghost Story. It was about the ghost of a snake that haunted our local lake in the town of Oak Ridge, New Jersey. I don’t remember too many details of it, but I remember what happened when he was finished. My cousin and I decided it was a much more fun idea to sleep inside that night. I also remembered how much I actually enjoyed the fact that a story could be scary. It was something that stuck with me all my life and influenced my love of the horror genre to this day. Maybe it’s was a tale by the masters, (Mr. King or Mr. Barker, for example) or an unpublished writer like we feature this month, but a story with a good twist and scare is something I truly love. It really all goes back to my Father and that first ghost story. So Dad, if you’re reading this? My library of Stephen King books and scary stories that I started collecting at the age of seven (two of which you bought me) is completely and utterly your fault. Thank you for that, Dad, you opened up a whole new world to me that I’ve never really left!
Hence, the current issue of Uncharted Frontier that you hold in your hand, iPhone, Kindle, or whatever. This was a true blast to put together and share with all of you. I want to thank all of the artists, photographers and authors that submitted to us for this issue, personally. You really, truly make this job fun! I hope you, our constant reader, enjoy reading each of these stories and perusing the art as much I have putting this together. Thank you for supporting us, and I hope you enjoy this month’s incredible issue!
Pardon me some Bela at your expense... Bevare... and velcome! To the Frontier!

Stemming the Tide
Adrian Crook
I don’t have much time left. I can...feel...something happening. It’ll progress quickly and I want to get this all down before I run out of time. Why bother?
you might ask. (Assuming there’s even a you
out there to read this.)
I don’t know. Maybe it’s a confession.
Then again, I don’t know what good a confession would do. I don’t know a whole lot about religion, but I do know they tend to frown upon suicide. Blowing your brains out, according to every religion I’m aware of, gets you a one-way ticket to the inferno.
Of course, it’s not just suicide I’ll be committing. With one bullet I’ll be taking out many others. How many? No idea. I wouldn’t even hazard a guess. The only thing I do know is that everything I tried has failed.
All the drug cocktails...all the blockers
... all the genetic sequencing...it just prolonged the inevitable. A lot of good the Johns Hopkins medical degree hanging on my wall has done me! It hangs there mocking me as I write this.
It’s probably just as well. For all intents and purposes, I deserve to die. After all, it’s not everyone who is responsible for the demise of mankind. And to think: two years ago I was on the cover of Time Magazine and was being called man’s savior.
Oh, what sweet irony!
