    The Wedding

Today I am getting married – I think. A car will pick me up shortly. Previously, it has taken me to a large, elegant house, where I performed my services as a Giver; the last time was a month ago. This time it will take me to the Wedding Centre, where I will meet my future wife for the first time.

We have been carefully selected for one another; the selection is based on genetics, intellect, personality, interests and a range of other criteria. It was the same for all the married people I know and most seem to be very happy. We do have the option of not going ahead with the ceremony but this happens very rarely. The ceremony is not religious; it is more of a process and is only referred to as a ceremony out of tradition. This has been the case for several decades now.

I was advised two weeks ago that I was to marry. Since that time, everything has been organised: the ceremony, a celebratory meal afterwards, the honeymoon and all the invitations. I organised nothing; everything was taken care of, and paid for, by the Marriage
